iPad on iOS 4.2 features roundup
iOS 4.2 is a bombshell of an upgrade on iPad, enabling multi-tasking, printing, folders, faster browsing and other features we’ve been enjoying on our iPhone 4s for the past months as well as some hidden gems. This feels like the iPad we’ve always never knew we wanted. Follow along as we attempt to chronicle the new stuff:
MacStories (nice new site design!) points out that there is a new redesigned black keyboard that makes its appearance in the lock screen if you enable alpha-numeric entry. It was available previously by using the iOS Configuration Utility. This will hopefully make its way to other parts of the OS….
Also, for you (and us) font freaks, Notepad gets some new font options which include Helvetica and Chalkboard which join Marker Felt.
iLounge also shows the new larger Gamecenter Interface for iPad:
Apple can’t seem to make its mind up on the iPad Screen Orientation switch which is now a mute switch. Apple’s website had originally said it would be mute switch but at launch it turned into an orientation switch. Maybe give users the option in setting if you can’t make up your mind Apple?
Engadget shows what Folders look like in their gallery:

Overall browsing seems faster but we haven’t done speed tests. The build, as betas go is a little bit buggy and we’ve had to restart a few times.
But damn, this is a fantastic update. we’ll take the crashes with all of these new features any day.
