ActiveSAN — there is life after Xserve
Listen up folks, ActiveStorage has introduced ActiveSAN, a metadata controller appliance that incorporates ‘stunning’ Active Storage product design and the rock-solid performance, and as we said it is good for XSAN and StorNext networks…and it won’t clash with your ‘legacy’ Xserve array.
The appliance is a 1U device on a Xeon processor. There’s dual redundant power supplies, up to 8GB of RAM and more — it looks like a lovely replacement for all you Xserve users out there. That’s probably why Apple’s people have been quietly recommending existing Xserve users look at this solution.
ActiveSAN will be demonstrated at the NAB 2011 convention in April, with delivery of systems in the second quarter of 2011. Pricing and configurations have not yet been set
