IFA 2013 Roundup: Apple accessories almost stole the show

Samsung received the most attention this year at the IFA consumer technology show with its new Galaxy Gear smartwatch and Galaxy Note devices, but Apple products still dominated much of the show floor when it came to new accessories for tablets and smartphones. Below we’ve put together a huge collection of the new and upcoming accessories for Apple devices that we came across this year in Berlin.

New wi-fi enabled USB flash drives from HyperDrive including a new Wifi USB Mini (available now), and upcoming iUSBPort 2, and HyperJuice Expand battery packs that allow you to magnetically attach different sized batteries.

Hama’s new Creedroid V2 Bluetooth controller for iOS and Android.

Sony’s new CyberShot lens accessory will become available for smartphones other than Xperia devices via an adapter when the two models launch later this month for $250-$500.

We previously reviewed Belkin’s WeMo Switch & Motion products, but Belkin’s new wi-fi enabled WeMo Insight Switch coming in November ($59.99) adds the ability to track energy usage of any electrical outlet. We got our first look at the new product and companion app during the ShowStoppers press event during IFA.

  1. Perhaps the wireless wall speaker that plugs into a socket could come with a recommendation of service contractor requirements seeing as the typical socket mount is around a foot off the ground, and the demo is at around 5 ft off the ground.*

    * I’d have them include reference to how one should hire a contractor to install one if they haven’t a clue how to put a junction box adjacent to a stud, and then hire an electrician as the simplest means to install a new socket box in one’s house– I know how to do it but most folks won’t touch this for anything outside their kitchen or bathroom. One exception would be an outdoor speaker off a deck.

Why would they include tips on how to hire a contractor? That’s beyond meaningless. They could – perhaps- give an “optimal” height, but honestly, this is for gimmick use and not home stereo use.
