Apple launches iTunes 11.1 with iTunes Radio, Genius Shuffle, Podcast Stations, iOS 7 support

In the hours before iOS 7 arrives for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Apple has released iTunes 11.1 with several major new features. The download is available from Apple’s website.

This version of iTunes comes with several major new features, including:

iTunes Radio. iTunes Radio is a great new way to discover music. Choose from over 250 stations or start a new one from your favorite artist or song. Enjoy iTunes Radio ad-free once you subscribe to iTunes Match.

Genius Shuffle. Introducing a magical new way to experience your music library. Choose Genius Shuffle and iTunes instantly plays songs that go great together. Click it again to hear something new—enjoying your music has never been this easy.

Podcast Stations. You can now create custom stations of your favorite podcasts that update automatically with new episodes. Your stations, subscriptions, and current play position sync over iCloud to the Podcasts app.

Sync with iOS 7. You can now use iTunes to sync your favorite music, movies, and more to devices with iOS 7. In addition, iTunes now makes it even easier to quickly organize and sync apps to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The new iTunes for Macs and PCs is headlined with iTunes Radio, Apple’s new free music streaming service. Also coming along for the ride in this new update is a new way to shuffle music found in Genius Playlists. Also new is Podcasts stations (which will sync over iCloud to the iOS app). Unsurprisingly, the new release includes full support for synchronizing with your iOS 7 devices and managing app installations.

ITunes 11.1 can already be load through the website. As a non US Resident you can easily use a US ITunes Account to use iRadio.

The .DMG does not appear to be good (it’s 353 bytes and DiskImageMounter can’t open it. App Store shows no update and iTunes is showing 11.0.5 to be the latest.

Is it me or the link either on Apple or here is basically inoperative (anymore)?
A 768 bytes .dmg keeps downloading whenever I try both the links. Nothing more.

  13. Brian Patrick Byrne - 11 years ago

Hmm…direct link not working. Went to apple.com and was able to upgrade two of my Macs, but now 11.1 isn’t available on the download page ( http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ ) anymore! Did they pull the link because it went live prematurely???

    • Brian Patrick Byrne - 11 years ago

Hmm…now the 11.1 link is back, but it links to a bad dmg file. They must be having some problems over on Apple’s servers with this!!!

  14. I went to open the .dmg file and it said it can’t open it because it’s not recognized

Downloaded and then been screwing around for ages trying to figure out how to find/turn on/see iTunes Radio. Turns out it’s not available in the UK yet, I think.

  20. Bernardo Gonzalez - 11 years ago

11.1 version is already available in spanish (Mexico)

    http://www.apple.com/mx/itunes/download/

  21. There’s no way to enter the Radio in the new iTunes anyway. All links to launch it just take you to your purchased music instead.

  22. Chris Renaldi - 11 years ago

iTunes Radio is amazing so far – I Love It!

  23. Mr. Grey (@mister_grey) - 11 years ago

Kind of sucks if you ask me. they have removed the normal Internet Radio that was already there, and replaced it with their own proprietary streaming service, but only in the USA.

If they were going to make a USA only service, at least they could have left us with the regular Internet Radio that’s been in iTunes for what … 8 years or so? Apple is just screwing everyone over lately.

    • It is still there.

      • Molly Martin - 11 years ago

where is it? I use Radio to listen to news, and cannot see that “genre”

      • dfay - 11 years ago

Still there but you may need to go to Prefs > General and re-enable it.

      • Mark Matthew Mangano - 11 years ago

Yes, they are still there…somewhere. I had some stations added to my list of music, and I can still get those feeds when I click on them. But, I cannot find the general list that was there last week. Another stupidity. I could not find an option for that under preferences.

  24. Robert Last - 11 years ago

downloaded installed and still confused… where is the radio – is it region specific, and only available in the US?

  25. William Cody Winter - 11 years ago

Any ETA on iTunes Radio in the UK? Still not available in the desktop iTunes and it says it’s 11.1.

  26. Elton Asher Jose Menezes - 11 years ago

my itunes does not have the radio even after updating and upgrading to ios 7 on ipod touch 5 wht to do??

  27. Harvey Edmonds - 11 years ago

11.1 is here and boy is it a stinker! The prior stations I knew and loved are nowhere to be found. The interface for station finding is not worth my time! Not enough time in beta testing. What a disappointment for someone who has a significant number of shares of apple common stock. Maybe I should sell them and take my loss. THIS IS NOT INNOVATION!

What the heck happened to all of the talk and news radio stations?????????????????????????????
