Best Buy to give minimum $100 trade-in on any smartphone towards iPhone 5s or 5c

A screenshot revealed by TechnoBuffalo indicates that Best Buy will be running a trade-in promotion where any undamaged, working smartphone will get you a minimum $100 gift card to use toward the purchase of a new iPhone – enough to cover the down payment on an iPhone 5c.

That’s interesting because Best Buy sells Android smartphones off plan for around $50 so even if you don’t want to give up your old iPhone, you could walk into the store, pick up a cheap Virgin smartphone, trade it in and walk away saving some money.

The promotion appears to be running for next week only, from Sunday 13th to Sat 19th October. Trade-in handsets must be in working order, no cracks on the screen and no water damage, and customers must sign-up to a new two-year contract. It follows on from a recent $50 gift card with a 5c purchase promotion.

As always with trade-ins, you may be able to get a better deal elsewhere. While our recent roundup only covered iPhone trade-ins, you can use it to find a list of other companies who may offer more than $100 for other handsets also. But since there are no stipulations on the age or model, it can be an excellent deal if you have a cheapo Android knocking around – and might even be worth picking up a used one specifically for the trade-in.

I have an upgrade available and still have a Samsung Focus S (WP7) device around. If I could get 100 for that piece of garbage, I’d take the 5s.
