The BBC have announced that several missing Doctor Who episodes from the Patrick Troughton era have been found. In total, the BBC have been able to recover and restore nine episodes of the hit TV show, which had previously been thought to be lost forever. These episodes, which span two series (“The Enemy of the World” and “The Web of Fear”) are now available exclusively on iTunes.

The episodes (originally aired over forty years ago) have been digitally remastered and are available now at the following links:

From the BBC:

The Enemy of the World first aired on BBC One in December, 1967. Episodes 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 had been missing from the BBC archives but have now been found which means that a complete version of this classic six-parter now exists.

Episodes 2 – 6 of The Web of Fear were feared lost forever but now episodes 2, 4, 5, and 6 have been recovered. This means that now, aside from episode 3, this adventure also exists in its entirety.

Both stories star Patrick Troughton as the Doctor plus Frazer Hines as Jamie and Deborah Watling asVictoria. The Web of Fear introduces the much-loved character Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (later known as the Brigadier) whilst The Enemy of the World is unique insofar as Patrick Troughton also stars as the story’s main villain – the evil Salamander.

Releases on DVD are expected to follow later this year, but iTunes currently has exclusive rights to digitally distribute these episodes.

Link not working, the episodes don’t appear to be in iTunes… USA Store.

  2. This is wonderful. They’re announced as found, and a few hours later they’re available for download.

This is one of those places where digital downloads really make sense. One of the episodes of WEB OF FEAR is still lost and only represented by the audio track and stills- but if it is discovered one day, you don’t need to purchase an entire new DVD to get it. Just download the revised episode.

    Brilliant!
