Google Hangouts for iOS adds outgoing and incoming voice calls through Google Voice

The Google Hangouts app for iPhone and iPad got a significant update to version 1.3 today. The update introduces Google Voice integration that allows incoming calls to your Google Voice number and outgoing calls to U.S. and Canadian numbers. Also included in the new version is the ability to see which friends are currently online, support for animated GIFs, and a fix to keep the app from stopping your music when a message comes in.

The update is available for free to all users on the iOS App Store now.

What’s New in Version 1.3.0

– See which of your friends is using Hangouts, and who can be reached right now

– Call phone numbers from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch (free to the US and Canada)

– Make and receive calls using your Google Voice number

– Send and receive animated GIFs that play inline

– Hangouts will temporarily turn down your music (instead of stopping it) when you receive an incoming message

Well is it the Google VOICE app or the Google HANGOUTS app?

The Hangouts App…. They said that Google Voice and GTalk will be merged into the Hangouts… So, probably in the future the G Voice will no longer exist and will be replaced by Hangouts.

Finally hangouts app is worth using…time to ditch talkatone and other dumb apps with stupid call quality and ridiculous pricing for better call quality … Thank you GOOGLE
