Cook tells employees Apple ‘has never been stronger,’ plans to address company tomorrow

ipad

Following Apple’s earnings results for Q4 2013, which includes a record iPhone sales number for the September quarter, Apple CEO Tim Cook has emailed employees to congratulate them on the results. Cook says that Apple “has never been stronger,” and highlights the products being released this fall. “I am happy to report that Apple’s business has never been stronger, and we are heading into the holidays within amazing lineup led by the new iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, the stunning iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display,” Cook says in the memo…

Cook goes on to highlight the collaborative efforts that have allowed the company to launch these products. “I’m extremely proud of the collaboration going on across the company and everything we’ve accomplished as result of this great team effort,” Cook says. The Apple CEO is likely referring to products such as iOS 7, which uniquely involved resources and collaboration between design and engineering teams.

In addition to referencing the company’s new products, Cook tells employees that he will be holding a company-wide communications meeting tomorrow morning. The meeting will be broadcast to Apple employees across the globe, and employees have been asked to submit questions to be answered during the communications briefing. Apple typically holds company-wide meetings following Q1 results, so a meeting following these Q4 results is atypical. We’ve published the memo from Cook in its entirety below.

Team,

We’ve just posted financial results for fiscal Q4, including record-setting iPhone sales. I am happy to report that Apple’s business has never been stronger, and we are heading into the holidays within amazing lineup led by the new iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, the stunning iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display. You and your teams work incredibly hard to deliver the very best products in the world, and our customers simply love them. I’m extremely proud of the collaboration going on across the company and everything we’ve accomplished as result of this great team effort.

Please join me for an employee communications meeting tomorrow at 9 AM Pacific time. The meeting will be broadcast to locations throughout Cupertino and Apple offices across the world. AppleWeb has a complete list of sites where you’ll be able to watch live or see a replay in certain time zones. We’ve also created a link on AppleWeb where you can submit your questions in advance, and we’ll do our best to answer as many as we can during the meeting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Tim

So a CEO sends employees a memo after reporting quarterly results. Can someone explain to me why this is newsworthy (other than 9to5Mac just wants to show off that people inside Apple leak to them)?

    • pdoobs - 10 years ago

You’re commenting on a website named 9to5mac what else would you like them to report on?

      • rogifan - 10 years ago

There’s nothing newsworthy about a CEO sending a memo to employees after announcing quarterly results. The CEO at my company does it every quarter too. The only thing that would be newsworthy is if Cook announced more management changes or something.

It is uncommon for Apple to hold a meeting after the Q4 results. So it is news! Just wait for the follow up article…

one of the most ‘selfish’ companies in history, not very charitable, stock-holder stingy, (mind you, I would be the same way) but it is funny how all these critics of oil companies and other big businesses just leave Apple alone when they effectively rape the land and people for huge profit without anybody giving them the same rash of shit they give other businesses!

    • rettun1 - 10 years ago

Right, because oil companies are always striving for the next big thing and have no interest in keeping things the way they are.

And Apple is probably one of the monst environmentally conscious companies in the industry.

Apple has not been treating right like like other companies such as Google, Netflix, Amazon. I think Apple should move to Germany, Japan those countries would love, proud and respect Apple in their lands. Americans do not deserve Apple. Once you lost a loved one then you’d appreciate for what you have had and lost. so move Apple, move far and away.

Apple is awesome. Great company to work for. Great people.

I know this topic has been beaten to death, and with all the “what would Jobs” comments etc.

But.. I´m a huge Apple fan. And I wish post-Jobs Apple would have corrected a couple of things.

    1. Push more new technology out more quickly, they have grown into such a big company now that they should be able to “eat” more.
    2. Lower prices for both Macs and IOS devices, this was typical of Apple to do – beat on price. Now they seem to have given up the lower end, and focuses more on premium products. I wish my family could buy a Mac at $699 that has a decent screen. Make it happen. Same goes for the iPhone, next year make the 5C without contract at $399.
    3. They are repeating the same old message almost too much. It´s the same event, the same presentation, the same talking points. The same marketing on Apple.com. It is starting to age, they are becoming boring. Do something new, play it up a bit.

I worry that Tim Cook is too focused on keeping it the exact same way as under Jobs, but truth is Jobs would have kept changing things up to surprised us.

Costs are increasing at an alarming rate at Apple. And the end results are more expensive products that does not contain the latest greatest tech. This was what Jobs was so good at, getting cost down and having state of the art tech in it´s products making them truly feel premium. Where is the 802.11AC, TouchID, 8Mpix camera etc on iPads? Why is it still stuck with the same camera as last year, still N wifi and no TouchID? Obviously to keep cost down.

Sorry, you are completly wrong. Your comment shows, you did not understood Apple. TIM was the guy who did cost management and production efficiency as well as logistics under Steve Jobs and NOT Steve.

Tim nowadays IS the ONE, who doe’s what he always does. And by the way: The products was delivered by the team, not by Steve himself. He “just” was the genius. Not more. Not less. I suggest you sit down and learn a little bit more about Apple and it’s history.

    • Brian A Peat - 10 years ago

Actually, Jobs wasn’t the one who locked in the costs that was…Tim Cook.

    • Anthony Moon Ciaramello - 10 years ago

Im pretty sure as a public company. It only makes sense to be able to make products that can be MASS PRODUCED. Apple like some other companies deals with 30-50 million devices a quarter. If they sold the MOST UP TO DATE, and LATEST TECH, there would (speculation) not be enough supply for them. Meaning there revenue would be down a lot. Overall they drive inovation, but they must also keep into consideration they need to make money. The most money possible. So, what makes more sense. Sell 1million iphones with AMOLED and 15 whatever else… or keep it slowly advancing, minor updates and sell 30 million of something available… I think stock holders pick the latter…

Does anyone have a link to this?

  6. GeekSays - 10 years ago

No doubts, Apple is may no stronger than today it is, but seriously it is missing something that Steve Jobs had running in his hands.

If history is of any indication, the only times when CEOs speak up to reassure investors/employees are when the company is in trouble. Indeed, Apple’s insane growth engine (70 – 80% YoY growth from 2-3 years ago) has stalled… Looking forward to Apple’s next revolutionary product to sustain their growth figures.
