Apple has opened up a secondary dedicated AppleCare repairs warehouse in the United States in recent days, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the new center. The new warehouse is located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and public records indicate that the facility comes in at just under 200,000 square-feet with an additional 2500 square-feet of space available for offices.

Apple will use this facility to conduct repairs and replacements and to manage, package, and ship repaired Apple devices to both customer’s homes and Apple Store Genius Bars across the country. When an Apple customer of a Mac computer, for example, needs aspects of their device replaced and fixed, their product is typically shipped to a similar warehouse in Elk Grove, California…

This California facility, just cities away from Apple’s Cupertino headquarters, has been Apple’s sole AppleCare repair center in the United States for several years. The Pennsylvania building will serve as Apple’s first major expansion of its repair facilities and is Apple’s first physical AppleCare presence on the East Coast of the United States. Apple will utilize the new center to be able to conduct repairs and part replacements at a faster pace.

Apple has smaller venues for conducting and managing repairs in Texas and in Memphis, but this new Pennsylvania location is a large, dedicated warehouse for repairs.

With Apple’s customer base consistently growing, it is important that Apple manages to enhance its support resources to assist these users. With both West Coast and East Coast repair centers, Apple will now ship devices for repairs to the center that is closest in proximity to the customer. In addition to ensuring a speedier repair time, the shipping times (back and forth) will obviously now be shorter as well.

Besides enhancing its product replacement and repair resources, Apple is working on enhancing its online AppleCare support offerings. Earlier this year, Apple began enhancing its online support with new 24/7 text-chat support. The company is said to also be developing ways to expand the hours of its international phone support resources for several products.

Whenever I’ve sent in repairs it goes to Memphis, is this just for educational machines?

The couple times I’ve taken my iMac (2007) back for warranty repairs, it was to the Apple Store where it was purchased here in Raleigh, NC. At just a few days turnaround time, I doubt it was sent anywhere else. Both times it was for a faulty hard drive, which was replaced. Out of warranty now, I will most likely use a local “authorized” shop where I’ve had my much older laptop serviced. Neither one have given me problems, though. Especially compared to the Windows PC’s and laptops I’ve had in the past.

  3. This is very old news – AppleCare in Carlisle, Pennsylvania opened around 3-4 years ago to complement the Elk Grove, California centre – which is nowhere near Cupertino despite what this article suggests (its outside Sacramento).

I don’t think that this East Coast AppleCare center is going to speed up anything for Apple, because, whenever I submit any of my device to Apple Store it takes months to reach me back.

I took my Apple MacBook Air to the Annapolis, MD store for a repair this weekend. It must have been sent to the new facility since it is already on its way back after one day! “Prett-ay, prett-ay, prett-ay, pretty good!”.

This repair facility is great news but it is a long time in coming. It would be great to see Apple invest more in domestically based operations facilities.

  7. does anyone have the phone number to this repair center?? They sent my hard drive there a week ago. I just tried to use my backup, but it is corrupted. I will lose all family pictures of my children if I can’t get it back. I have the Fedex tracking number, but NO ONE at Apple seems to have a number for this facility. Please please please email me if you know how to contact this center. pantalonefamily@sbcglobal.net or call me at 405-447-4566
