Top 10 weirdest things you can buy at the Apple Store

In honor of Apple’s newly crafted Apple Store for iPad app and just in time for the holidays, we’ve perused the Apple Store for a what we think are the weirdest things money can buy.

Check out our list below and let us know what you think:

1. Infomotion 94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball

We know SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue is a Miami Heat fan, so maybe he had a play at this ballin’ product showing up at the Apple Store:

The Infomotion 94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball and 94Fifty app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch measures muscle activity, so you can understand your playing strengths and weaknesses. It adapts as you improve, while providing basic, intermediate, and advanced level training to help you quickly build better shooting and ball handling skills. It’s like having the best coaches in the world with you every day of the year.

2. Limited Edition Sphero 2.0 Revealed by Orbotix

Okay, this product just looks really cool and mysterious, and I am 100% getting my hands on one of these. It’s a remote control (via an iOS device) orb with pretty lights:

An Apple exclusive, Limited Edition Sphero 2.0 Revealed features a custom shell and inductive charger that showcases Sphero’s inner robot. Now when you control this amazingly smart—and smart looking—toy with your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch and one of more than 25 apps, you’ll have a deeply mesmerizing experience.

4. Kwikset Kevo Wireless-Enabled Deadbolt Lock

We’ve mentioned this product before, and it’s really cool and fascinating:

Kwikset’s Kevo Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt lock lets you unlock your door wirelessly with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and the Kevo app. You don’t even need to take your iOS device out of your pocket or purse; just touch your lock and it recognizes you. 5. Moleskine Large Notebook Set Ruled for Evernote with Click Roller Pen (0.7mm)

Now this is borderline skeuomorphic, but would make a nice gift no less:

Fill the Moleskine notebook with ideas and sketches using the Click Roller Pen, then let the Evernote mobile app bring them to your iPad, iPhone, or Mac. It’s easy thanks to Evernote’s Page Camera feature that lets you take a photo of any page in a digital format so that you can save it, search it, and share it with the world.

6. Netatmo Urban Weather Station

Even if you already have enough weather apps, this is fascinating just to view:

Improve your wellness and adapt your activities to take into account the air quality both indoors and out with the Netatmo Urban Weather Station. This device evaluates indoor air confinement by measuring CO2 concentration. When C02 reaches an excessive level, the user is alerted directly on their iPad, iPhone or iPod touch and can take action like ventilating their home. Used outside, it measures air quality to allow users to assess the best times for outdoor physical activity, such as playing with the children, jogging or whether to walk or drive to work.

8. Wahoo Fitness KICKR Bike Trainer

The price alone makes this product weird, then you look at it:

Using the power of iPhone, Bluetooth wireless, and your favorite cycling app, Wahoo KICKR Bike Power Trainer transforms your indoor cycling experience. Simply remove your bike’s back wheel and connect it to Wahoo KICKR for accurate power measurement, iPhone-controlled resistance, open third-party software options, and the smoothest indoor riding you can imagine.

9. Tiggly Shapes by Kidtellect

If that was too expensive, this might be more budget-friendly… and weird:

Tiggly Shapes are rubberized toys (circle, square, triangle, star) that children between 18 months and 4 years old can use for learning and play with an iPad and three different Tiggly apps. The Shapes have a soft plastic cover and silicon touch points and are durable enough for toddler play—yet gentle enough for iPad screens.

10. Oakley Airwave 1.5 Goggle

This is basically Google Glass but way more macho (and it actually runs a modified version of ANDROID — the humanity!):

Oakley Airwave 1.5 goggles combine world-class performance, protection, and comfort with a heads-up display that lets you view incoming calls and texts from your iPhone via Bluetooth wireless and the Oakley Airwave Snow app. Airwave 1.5 integrates GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more with a host of onboard sensors to give you instant access to a world of information. I don’t see how any of those items are ‘weird’. Niche maybe, but not weird.

You forgot the Philips Hue starter kit + bulbs + lamps!

  3. degraevesofie - 10 years ago

The “Kwikset Kevo Wireless-Enabled Deadbolt Lock” is an interesting product, but beware: They charge $2 for every e-key after the first two.

(There are alternatives in the works: August SmartLock and Lockitron.)

The Wahoo Kickr is not weird for a cyclist. In fact it’s one of the best trainer on the market and the price is lower than many trainer with the same functionality.

  5. truffol - 10 years ago

It would be pretty weird to see a basketball in an Apple store.

But with Apple’s high standards in the style department (not only for their products but other brands that they carry in store), I’d think they should stock the August lock instead of the Kwikset.
