Mophie has become one of the household names in iPhone cases over the past couple of years because of its useful battery pack accessories that extend the battery life of the iPhone. At CES 2014, the company has announced a new line of products, building on its Juice Pack brand. Dubbed Space Pack, Mophie’s new cases double the battery life of your iPhone, but also add more storage to your phone. The case will be available in 16GB and 32GB models, meaning that if you have a 64GB iPhone, you could now have a max of 96GB of storage. Both case variants have a 1,700mAh battery built-in, as well.

In terms of design, the Space Pack looks almost identical to the company’s Juice Pack line of cases. Designed for the iPhone 5/5s, the case has two speaker cut outs in the front, and a button on the back to show how much battery you have left. It will be available in a silver and black model.

The added storage will be able to hold any type of content, including pictures, videos, music files, and documents. You will be able to access the files at any time, as long as the case is connected. Mophie has also introduced a new companion app for the Space Pack called ‘Space’ that allows users to manage the content.

Mophie’s Space Pack will be available on March 14, 2014 for 149.95 and 179.95 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively.

Sounds like an awesome idea. Kind of expensive but might be worth it. I like my Mophie case alright (only use it when I know I’ll need it, like when I go on vacation) but the plastic on it really couldn’t be any cheaper. Hopefully these are better quality.

Why don’t they just include an SD slot, which Apple refuses to do. Instead of paying $200 more for 48 GB more storage on my iPhone (upgrading from 16 GB to 64 GB), I could pay $60 for an additional 64GB of storage via SD for a total of 80 GB.

Are they f’ing kidding me? $150 for an extra 16GB storage (would is cumbersome to use) and battery? Why wouldn’t someone just pay $100 more to get a higher-capacity iPhone and use the remaining $50 to a) buy an extra lightning cable to keep in the office; or b) get a portable battery that’s way cheaper.

In what world would this case be a good idea?
