Apple seeds OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 beta build 13C39 to developers with iMessage, FaceTime blocking

Nearly one month after the initial seed, Apple has provided developers with a second beta release of the upcoming OS X 10.9.2. The new build is labeled as version 13C39, and it is available via both Software Update in the Mac App Store for those running the first beta and from Apple’s online developer portal. The first 10.9.2 seed added enhancements to both the Messages and FaceTime applications, allowing for FaceTime Audio calls. Apple has added the ability to block people on iMessage and FaceTime with this new seed. The blocking mechanism syncs with blocked contacts on iOS 7. Blocking, according to people familiar with this update, is available in the preferences tabs for both the Messages and FaceTime apps.  Thanks, K!

That’s all they did in a whole month, just adding the block feature?

It’s worth it. I’ve been waiting a long time for this. So have many others. It’s all over the web.

Anyone figure out how to actually use the block feature????

Now we all sit back and hope for this! My iOS 8 and iPhone 6 wish list. Please Apple, read this! http://www.7dfour.com/my-ios-8-iphone-6-wish-list-for-2014/

I would prefer that they work on the existing bugs rather than adding new features.

Is Apple sticking to the schedule of a new major update every year? So far Mavericks feels like a beta, and not even a late one.

Beta? OS X10.9 is the most stable release ever at launch. Most of complainers have hardware of software problems.

According to who? That sounds more like PR hyperbole rather than user experience. I got this from both developers and Apple tech support.

In some areas it is still like a Beta release:

        – How many years till they get multi monitor support right? I was hoping multi monitor support to be perfect out of the box this time, yet there’s a bug in Mavericks in which the Dock won’t show up in your active monitor unless you move the cursor to the bottom of the screen and keep moving it down (Google it. It is all over the internet).

        – Scrolling is laggy in some apps due to the out of the box buggy “responsive scrolling” implementation that cannot be turned off either!

        – For me copying a text from an iBooks ePub book freezes the system for 2 seconds. Really? Looks like OS X tries to lunch a NASA rocket into the orbit every time I copy something.

Honestly I have coped with all the bugs in the past few years but with Mavericks I am on the verge of losing my temper! ;-) I mean scrolling and copy/pasting are such core and fundamental features that I cannot believe Apple decides to release an OS X version with bugs in such central area of the system.

I have a 13″ MacBook Air 2013 and 15″ Retina MacBok Pro 2012, i don’t think i have hardware or software problem since both of my computers experience the same bugs in Mavericks…no swipe back in Finder, Launchpad bugs (swiping and icons disappearing), occasional disappearing of background grid in Dashboard, blue download progress bar in dock almost always gets stuck at 100% and stays that way even when download is already completed – Dock relaunch is needed to remove it, Activity Monitor is sometimes completely empty – reboot is required…All that with fresh installs on two new machines…so yeah, Mavericks does feel like a early to mid beta and Apple should focus on fixing all the bugs rather then adding new stuff.

That annoying launchpad bug and multi-touch swipe back bug in Safari are what needs to be their top priorities. They’re killing me.

Apple used to provide delta and combo updates for developer previews on the mac dev center but don’t anymore.

But apple are providing a combo as well as a delta through the mac app store for the developer previews. Usually only the delta will show up if you have been keeping up to date with all the beta updates.

It’s a bit harder to get the combo to show up in the mac app store and to find the direct link for the combo.

Here is how to do it for the combo.

Make a partition or virtual machine for the golden master build 13A603. Be sure never to allow this to be updated. Boot up in 13A603 or run the virtual machine for it.

Install the mavericks seed configuration utility (available from the mac dev center). Check for software updates. A different thing will show here called the “Combined seed”. Click Update.

Go to your Library/Updates folder after you start the download from the mas. A new folder with numbers appears. Open it. At first, there will be two files inside which you can open with textedit. The one with extension extraInfo has a link with smd extension. Copy this link. Change the extension in your copy to pkg and that gives you the direct link for the combo.

Do not let the updating procedure to complete. Click Cancel in the mac app store. If that fails, force quit the mac app store.

Delete the folder with numbers from the Library/Updates folder.

You may then use your link in a browser (instead of the mas) to download the combo without necessarily installing it.

If you just want the delta direct link, you can use the same procedure, but on you main system (provided it is already up-to-date), not the golden master partition or virtual machine.
