Apple says ‘Happy Birthday, Mac’ with special Mac App Store section

Continuing the Mac’s 30th anniversary celebration, Apple has a new featured section in the Mac App Store with a number of apps it says ‘capture the spirit of what makes this computer so extraordinary.’

When the Macintosh debuted on January 24, 1984, it fundamentally changed what a computer was—and what it could do. Software developers had an incredible new playground for their imaginations, allowing them to create groundbreaking apps and games unlike any seen before. And that’s just as true of the Mac today as it was then. Celebrate the Mac’s 30th anniversary with our specially chosen assortment of apps and games that capture the spirit of what makes this computer so extraordinary.

In addition to Apple’s own apps, it features a number of third apps including 1Password, Evernote, Pixelmator, Fantastical, and more in addition to a section dedicated to games.

Apple has celebrated the Mac’s 30 years in other ways as well including a custom home page and timeline, interviews with Macworld and ABC, an Apple Store display, and more.

After looking at the “amazing apps”, I think the definition of “amazing” needs to be downgraded and moreover, that the word itself be included in the annual “words that should never be used again” list. The apps are mostly ok, maybe even decent, but amazing, hardly.

And there you go again with this nonsense. Get over yourself.

Or maybe “yourself” is one of the “words that should never be used again”.

Sounds you’re the one who needs to “get over yourself’ kid.

        I’m sure that’s the case¡ You can’t possibly be incorrect, after all¡

It seems rather clear you weren’t there in 1984 when the first Mac was introduced. You’re right, “amazing” shouldn’t be used, at least in the context of the Mac, the word I heard most used to describe the Mac was “astounding”. Remember most everything you do with almost any digital device today started with technology developed and marketed by Apple including the Macintosh.

A cure for cancer would be amazing, and astounding. Apps and computers, not so much. And yes, I was there in 1984 and it was (and still is) a wonderful piece of technology, forward thinking, and marketing genius.

Perversely on the machine of a person who share’s Mac’s birthday – there is no difference on my Mac App Store page (UK)

    • Yep, same here. I too am a Brit, sharing my birthday with the Mac, although I’m a year younger than it. I don’t see the promotion either. US only then, I guess.
