Google Chrome for iOS update adds Cast support to web pages, gets a tweaked icon

chrome-ios

Google has released an updated version of the Google Chrome application for iOS today, bringing at least one interesting new feature to the app: mobile websites that have Cast support will now work with all of your Cast-capable devices. It’s unclear how the feature works at the moment, but according to the release notes, developers are going to need to add support to their webpages before they can take advantage of the feature.

Also, as will likely be praised by iOS users everywhere, the version 36.0.1985.49 update goes the way of Google Hangouts and finally gets rid of the infamous “lip” located at the bottom of the app icon:

To round the update off, you’ll find the usual improvements and bug fixes.

Maybe someday they’ll introduce normal privacy controls, like cookie sandboxing and clear cache on exit. Until then it’s Firefox every day.

Just curious why Firefox is your own option? Does Safari on iOS not make the cut?

Nice icon. LOL. I Don’t get it. iOS 7 takes away gloss and suddenly no one can create a decent icon.

What’s wrong with the icon? The only difference is the new one is missing the “chin” which most people would agree was an improvement. Personally, I think they should flatten out the Chrome icon itself too.

I’m SOO glad they got rid of the bottom ridge, it made it look absolutely awful. Now they just need to do that across all of their iOS icons (YouTube next)!

How does one add Cast support to webpages? Do you think iOS devices will be able to cast their screen to connected TVs like Android?
