Foursquare’s location discovery-focused app overhaul now available

Earlier this year Foursquare announced its plans to split check-ins and social features from location discovery and reviewing features from its mobile apps. Swarm, the new app focused on check-ins, launched earlier this year in May while Foursquare gave its users some time to become familiar with having two apps for two different purposes.

Today, the brand new Foursquare stripped of check-ins and heavily focused on location discovery is rolling out on the App Store sporting a new icon as Foursquare’s new model is now fully deployed. Foursquare describes the focus of its new app on its blog:

Our phones should learn about us – our tastes, our social connections, and our preferences. And, using what they know, they should help us better explore the world around us. If you love vintage clothing, it should tell you that there is a hidden gem nearby. If you’re in a new city, it should tell you that your friend Katy highly recommends this hole-in-the-wall restaurant downtown. If you crave spicy food, it should advise which dishes you should order when you sit down for dinner.

We built the all-new Foursquare to realize this vision. The world is a beautiful place full of all sorts of amazing experiences, and our phones should help guide us to them. We’re releasing it today, and can’t wait for everyone to experience it.

The new Foursquare frees you from having to read long, random reviews, wondering if those people share your tastes. With Foursquare, find things based on your tastes, the places you like, and the friends and experts you trust most.

And it’s _still_ iPhone-only, resulting in unsavory upscaling on iPad.  This is the futurrreeeee!!!!

I can’t wait to see how many **years** it takes them to adapt their UI to the predicted 4.7″ and 5.5″ iPhone 6 screens.

Developed by Dennis Crowley, the man (and his wife) who, despite the 2013 tragedy and admonishments not to, scammed and cheated his wife’s way into the Boston Marathon with barely an explanation nor an apology. Is this an honest broker of your information?
