Apple TV adds premium network Showtime to the channel lineup

Showtime Anytime Apple TV

In addition to reviving the iTunes Festival channel ahead of the music event, Apple has pushed out an additional channel on Apple TV. Showtime Anytime, the premium cable and satellite television network, is now available for streaming content on Apple TV. The channel includes free full episodes of select episodes of certain shows. In addition to acting as an on-demand channel, Showtime Anytime on Apple TV also supports viewing live broadcasts with an authenticated subscription to supported TV providers.

Supported TV providers include AT&T U-Verse, Bright House Networks, Comcast Xfinity, Cox, DIRECTV, Optimum, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS, and a lengthy list of regional providers as well. In addition to a TV subscription, unlocking live TV and full content also requires an active subscription to the Showtime network.

Showtime Anytime is the latest channel to join the Apple TV lineup following the football network NFL Now channel just six days ago and the network FOX Now and financial channel CNBC less than one month ago. The update also includes new Swedish and Norwegian channels in those markets.

In addition to a list of premium movies for live viewing with an authenticated TV subscription, Showtime Anytime brings a list of shows like Californication, Dexter, Homeland, House of Lies, Ray Donovan, and The Tudors to Apple TV.

Apple needs to add AcornTV, a premium British channel. Think A&E before it went to utter crap. It’s the only reason I hold on to my Roku in addition to my AppleTV.

How much longer before we can just pick what we want and stream it all OD over a box? It’s not that hard, folks.

Useless to me if I have to have a cable TV subscription of any type. complete cord cutter here..

I’ll stick with Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. Whats the point of an Apple TV if you have to pay for FULL subscriptions of other services that you would just watch on regular anyway? I think they are totally missing the point.

The point is picking only what you want and pushing them into on-demand solutions. There are thousands of “channels” available but how many worthwhile ones? Just a handful at best.

They aren’t missing the point. They are more aware of it than anyone. They just can’t do anything about it. There may never be a futurist entertainment delivery and consumption platform, because of the extreme complexity of the contracts and the greed of the highly unimaginative, ignorant, unintelligent, moronic, idiotic, retarded executives running all of the studios and distribution companies.

They are holding it all back, I just hope piracy get worse and worse until they are forced to change and give reasonable, consumer friendly options. Piracy made the music industry a million times better, let’s hope it does the same for everything else related to entertainment content.

finally! At least I don’t have to sit in front of my laptop to catch up now when I forget to record

but I’m with them, ready to ditch my satellite bill and pay for what I actually watch!

How is the quality of the streaming? I canceled Showtime after Dexter ended (terribly) so I can’t test this. HBOGO is always high quality and has a fantastic interface.

I’ll let you know when they let Directv customers use it? Unless they have changed it yet? That’s ridiculous!

        HBOGO I mean

      • mpmchugh - 10 years ago

DirecTV allowed access to HBOGO on ATV months ago, and they are on the list of supported subscriptions for SHO Anytime as well. I’ll try it tonight, but HBOGO is working.

I cut the cord awhile back but i use my dad account. He wants to spend 200 a month on cable I’m gonna put it to good use. I like that this app has Live TV unlike so many other apps on apple tv.

I hope they work out a deal with Showtime Boxing PPV. Most times I stream the big boxing fights because I’m not about to pay $60+ for a fight. Or I’ll wait for a torrent hours later. I’m more inclined to pay $20-30 for a fight, but not $60+
