WatchABC & NPR One iOS apps add Chromecast support, ABC now AirPlays to Apple TV

A couple notable mobile apps for both Android and iOS are receiving updates today that bring Chromecast support including NPR One and the WatchABC apps.

NPR One, the recently released app from NPR that offers a curated stream of stories and personalized content, now allows you to beam beautiful story images on your TV while listening to the best of local and national public radio.

The WatchABC app has also just received an update with support for casting to Google’s $35 Chromecast streaming stick. The app provides access to a ton of ABC content on demand and also offers live streams and recent episodes to those that authenticate with a cable account. The WatchABC app also gains the ability to AirPlay from the app to an Apple TV.

The updated NPR One app for Android and iOS and the WatchABC apps for Android and iOS are available on Google Play and the App Store now.

Public radio fans can rejoice as NPR One is now available for Chromecast. You can now access great NPR programming such as Morning Edition, Snap Judgment or just LOL with Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! on demand and around the clock.

Starting today, you can also tune in to your favorite ABC shows with the WatchABC app — catch favorites such as Grey’s Anatomy, Castle and Dancing with the Stars, or the highly anticipated Selfie and How to Get Away with Murder.  (To watch live stream or recent episodes, you’ll need to sign in with a participating TV provider account.)

The future of the big screen in your living room is the internet and not networks or cable packages. It’s nice and all to get these litle crumbs from networks but Apple should forgemforward and open Apple tv to anyone who wantsnto provide content and democratize TV like YouTube has on the small screen.
A new interface for easy search and an open platform where little Jimmy down the street can have his own channel right along with CNN, ABC ahd Funny or Die.

Apple can’t allow themselves be blogged down by the monopolies, they need to leap over them like it did with the iPhone and bust status quo monopolies.

That’s great news. There is one more Chromecast app currently in Google Play called Vbio. It allows you to stream local movies from phone or UPNP hard disk to HDTV.
