Following today’s announcements, Apple has released the golden master version of iOS 8. The last iOS 8 beta seed for developers was released on August 4th with the push of iOS 8 beta 5. 9to5Mac previously reported to expect iOS 8 beta 5 to be the final developer beta before today’s iOS 8 GM seed.

iOS 8 is scheduled to be released over-the-air next week on September 17th for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 7 with a list of new features including iCloud Drive; a new Health app; support for app extensions and third party keyboards; continuity features that bridge iPhone, iPad, and Mac; new Family Sharing functionality; and more. iOS 8 will support iPhone 4S and later, iPad 2/iPad mini and later, and iPod touch 5th generation.

The iOS 8 GM seed is available now via the iOS Developer Center. We’ll be digging in to the new seed and report on any changes in the new version. As always, email tips@9to5mac.com if you see anything interesting.

-Xcode 6 GM seed and Apple TV Software Update GM are also available.

  2. Stuff You Should Know - 10 years ago

So I can update to IoS 8 now ? or do I have to wait till the 17th

    • Hussain AL-Derazi - 10 years ago

if you paid 99$ for iOS developers program you can download it now if you don’t you should wait till 17th of sep

  3. David Findley - 10 years ago

I’m assuming it will be available OTA?

    • Tom Lewis (@Tom_Lewis5) - 10 years ago

Nope, it requires ~1.8GB download from the dev portal
I never expected GM to be available OTA tbh

      • David Findley - 10 years ago

First year keeping up on pre-releases…I’ll be home later on and I’ll download it from the Dev Portal then. Thanks for the info!

  4. What about Mac OS X Yosemite release date?

  5. Hussain AL-Derazi - 10 years ago

Anyone knows whats deference between iOS 8 beta 5 and the GM >>??

    • To my understanding, GM (Gold Master) is the final dev release that is as good as first public release. There will not be anymore “dev” release after GM (till official public release) and this build will be released to public on official release date.

Oddly enough, Option > Restore is not working for me in iTunes…won’t allow me to select the .ipsw.

    Anyone else?

    • eastpointvet - 10 years ago

mine allowed me to select it but now iTunes crashes everytime i plug in my iPhone and won’t come up unless i unplug it then crashed soon as i plug it in again

      • JackBG (@IDanov) - 10 years ago

I got it from the dev center

      • xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

        me too, why???

      • xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

        have you gotten it fixed??

      • Taylor Snow - 10 years ago

So I can choose the file using SHIFT + RESTORE. Phone reboots and crashes iTunes every time. Now my phone is locked into restore mode and waiting for me to connect it to iTunes. Yay!

      • Stefan Amann - 10 years ago

I had the same problem with Yosemite DP 7. Luckily I had DP6 on my MBA, there I was able to update.

      • Sam (@SamMoran25) - 10 years ago

If you’re running Yosemite you need to get the Xcode Beta download and install iTunes 12, otherwise if you’re not using Yosemite as long as you are updated to iTunes 11 you should have no problem.

      • Steven Frith - 10 years ago

I had the same problem with DP7. Is there a fix? My phone doesn’t work at all and can’t get it to work!

      • i have the same issue but im running itunes 12 on yosemite public beta gonna need to get hold of computer with 11.4 itunes

    • JackBG (@IDanov) - 10 years ago

      Option+Update worked for me

      • Hussain AL-Derazi - 10 years ago

maybe He/her Needs to update the iTunes :/

      • Zoheb Khan - 10 years ago

        did u get OTA ?

      • Hussain AL-Derazi - 10 years ago

        Seems no OTA this time

      • PMZanetti - 10 years ago

iTunes is the latest from Yosemite in DP7. OTA is never available for the GM seed.

      • neftycorrea - 10 years ago

you have to update iTunes to support iOS 8. hold Å key then left key and then click on check updates all while your pressing these keys. and if your a developer and its not working you need to install Xcode 6.0 for the mac and keep it running while you are upgrading to iOS 8

      • neftycorrea - 10 years ago

        meant option key now A

    • Nicolasdf - 10 years ago

If you try Update than Restore?

    • It allows me to choose the file, but after that iTunes keeps crashing over and over.
Now it’s catch-22: iPhone asks for connection to iTunes, after which iTunes crashes.

    • PMZanetti - 10 years ago

Wow I’m stupid. It is SHIFT + RESTORE. Please disregard.

      • Todd Sellers - 10 years ago

Yes, it changed to Shift + Restore in Yosemite and iTunes 12.

    • Brad Roekle - 10 years ago

So glad I have access to many different computer being in IT. Would suck to be at home with 1 computer and no way to get this working and have a bricked iPhone.

  7. Innocent Uke - 10 years ago

Still not out on any sites either hope it out somewhere soon before the 17th so I can get it before my friends do

  8. Nicolasdf - 10 years ago

Somebody upload this update for 5s A1457 please!!!

  9. Rob Smithson - 10 years ago

I imagine iOS 8 will completely crush the iPad2 so they can force people to update to newer models. They never really fixed all the performance issues with iOS7 on it.

    • Jassi Sikand - 10 years ago

Yeah, that annoyed me. However, I think that the iPad 2 will run iOS 8 better than iOS 7 b/c now they have the time do enhance it. I mean if Target does the whole $200 thing again, I’ll just trade mine in. $200-$300 for an iPad Air 2 isn’t a bad deal.

  10. JackBG (@IDanov) - 10 years ago

And the new Passbook icon is in the the GM release

    • Hussain AL-Derazi - 10 years ago

new wallpapers, Clock icon more darker and some …. now waiting done from downloading to check if still make battery’s goes down fast

      • JackBG (@IDanov) - 10 years ago

New icons for iclod drive, backup and keychain in Icloud menu

  11. xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

mine allowed me to select it but now iTunes crashes everytime i plug in my iPhone and won’t come up unless i unplug it then crashed soon as i plug it in again

    • Taylor Snow - 10 years ago

Same here, It let me start the restore process but now iTunes crashes when the phone reboots to do the restore. Super.

      • xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

my phone is now bricked unless i restore from another comp…but then ill lose everything.

      • Taylor Snow - 10 years ago

        Anything?

      • xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

man! can you iMessage me? this is really blowing me. if you can.. my email is xbepax@gmail.com

      • Josie (@josie) - 10 years ago

Don’t use iTunes beta to update/restore the phone

      • xbepax4224 - 10 years ago

as of now, just using mac mini with os x mavericks

      • Had same problem but was able to continue by having Xcode 6 open while restoring. No longer crashes iTunes.

      • Matias Mollin (@mtsmln) - 10 years ago

The same for me. This sucks. Im installing the GM on another Computer with Mavericks.

      • Spencer Rockford - 10 years ago

I have the same problem. Figure anything out?

      • Gette (@g8tormjk) - 10 years ago

So if you’ve experienced this problem (which I have) then you have to restore phone from another computer and it will work? I wound up having to delete iTunes on my iMac then downloaded it again. I tried restoring phone from my Macbook Pro; however it also kept crashing. Is there a simpler workaround and does anybody know what exactly is causing it?

      • due3die - 10 years ago

Try to update iTunes 11 and then do it will work! The problem with DP7 and iTunes12!

      • Download TinyUmbrella! It will take your phone out of recovery mode! You can’t update to iOS 8 on Yosemite DP7, need DP 6, Mavericks or Windows.

    • eastpointvet - 10 years ago

i used my other mac with mavericks and had no problem i seen others downgraded from iTunes 12 and had it to work

  12. Dimiter Geelen - 10 years ago

Also: The newsstand icon has text in it, and the gradient of the music icon seems to have been turned upside down.

    • lellis2k - 10 years ago

Ha just like in the leaked video that everyone said must be fake because the gradient was wrong.

  13. Can someone upload the Wallpapers?

  14. Philippe Reifenrath - 10 years ago

Can someone seed the iPhone 5s version to torrent?

  15. Lucas Borges (@SrBorgess) - 10 years ago

    Can someone upload the Wallpapers?

  16. Music app icon gradient is reversed

Hello. This is my fiirst time being a developer. Is GM the official release of iOS, but us developers are getting it earlier than the public? Also, how do I install the GM seed in my iPhone? Thanks!

  22. Roland Theron - 10 years ago

can anyone confirm if your device udid needs to be registered as a developer device to be able to install the GM? for previous GM versions of iOS releases this was not needed

  23. Thomas Heng - 10 years ago

You guys can download IOS 8 @ https://imzdl.com/index.php
than use shift / check for update method via itune
to install the IOS 8 GM
    enjoy
    mine works

  24. is anybody not seeing the iCloud Photo Library toggle in the Photos & Camera section in the Settings app? all i’m still seeing is Photo Stream :/

    • Me too, is that feature left out gm?

    • Jan Schöne - 10 years ago

It works fine on my iPhone 5s/iPad Mini Retina but on my wives 5s/Air I cannot see the iCloud Photo Library either – very strange. Tried to recover it via iTunes without success. On my iPhone I updated from iOS 8 beta 5, my wives ran iOS 7.1.2 before I updated – maybe thats the problem …

  25. I can not forward attachments in mail. Any suggestions?

  26. Picture is the problem. I will not be asked about the size of the picture

  27. jerry89899 - 10 years ago

    http://ibetacloud.com/#downloads links here no scam

  28. Anders Johansson - 10 years ago

iOS 8 for mobile devices is great! Anyone tested it for the AppleTV yet? I have downloaded the update, but I don’t dare to update..

  29. Cory Rupert (@coryrupert) - 10 years ago

Does anyone know if the GM will get updated to future releases? IE iOS 8.0.1?

    • Nicholas Heilweil - 10 years ago

Yes, it will do everything the release version will do because it’s exactly the same code. Any 8.0.1 type updates that get pushed over the air will work properly.

      • Andy Talenda - 10 years ago

Not to undercut you, but has anyone with a Developer account had this confirmed directly by a support team member at Apple?

  30. neftycorrea - 10 years ago

anyone want a link to DOWNLOAD IOS 8 GM SEED FREE LMK

  31. Scott Fitch - 10 years ago

If I install iOS 8 GM today, will my device receive over the air updates to 8.0.1 and so on when they’re eventually released..?
