iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus preorders estimated to exceed 20 million units in China

Last time we checked in, Tencent had reported four million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus unofficial reservations had been recorded. In an update today, the site now says that combined preorders (which began on Friday) from sales channels have exceeded 20 million.

Via Digitimes, which originally found the post from Tencent:

The report stated that pre-orders on website Jingdong Mall reached nearly 10 million over the period, which coupled with orders direct to major telecom providers and Apple pushed total orders to 20 million.

At just one retail location, one of China’s largest Chinese malls, the reservations approached 10 million units. Like before, there was an even split between iPhone 6 and 6 Plus orders, with 4.66 million and 4.82 million units respectively. Although Jingdong Mall provides exact numbers, orders from other sales locations have been estimated to total 10 million units, to reach the headline 20 million number. This is not widely overoptimistic, but it would be good to be slightly dubious of what are only estimations nonetheless. Still, 10 million orders from one site is very impressive indeed.

Apple will likely announce exact first-weekend sales for the region on Monday, as the phones officially go on sale in China this Friday.

    That’s just insane!

I didn’t realize that Samsung was having such a shortage for their Galaxy line that 20 million people gave up waiting and ordered iPhones (that’s a joke, don’t email me hate mail.)

That is an insane figure if anywhere close to true.

There are going to be some interesting Apple Financial Results in the coming quarters with the way these things are selling.

While we all assume that the Chinese are flowing in the dough, some Chinese are living in a limited financial situation where even a slight difference in price makes a difference.

The iPhone 6 is certainly a tremendous success in China and around the world, but it is a premier device that not everyone can afford. And so Samsung sales numbers aren’t completely down the toilet – the cheaper Samsung phone should not be considered a complete failure to the hundreds of millions of the Chinese poor.

Despite Samsung’s fragile posture being caught flatfooted in a quickly advancing market, Samsung will be able to continue to sell in China by aiming for the low end of the market.

Dude, why are you bringing up Samsung??

Who wants Samsung? Xiaomi Is expected to sell 200millions smart phones next year. Samsung is dead.

If you are in China and don´t want or can´t afford an iPhone no need to go for Samsung, you can get a Xiaomi. That´s the problem (for Samsung) with a race to the bottom.

Says who? You? And you are who? An analyst? So should I believe this post or you?

Being able to dance about singing “The witch is dead” about Samsung is a good thing.

The demand for iPhone 6 is dizzyingly massive. It’s going to be April before you can just walk into a store and have all models available for sale.

I hope they are giving the last of the defective 6’s to China. I want the batch that doesn’t bend. #oneofthenine.com #90ofthe9

I usually don’t engage trolls, but this whole “bendgate” deal is getting under my skin. If you are one of the nine, pack it in and go pick up a Galaxy Note 4 on Friday – you’ll probably be able to walk right into your local Best Buy or carrier store and pick one up without a pre-order, while all the rest of us keep asking “where is my iPhone 6 or 6 Plus” because the iPhones are soooooooooooo unpopular….

      • jameskatt - 10 years ago

What “Bendgate”? That is a dead story. Obviously the Chinese have completely forgotten it as a non-story.

Size does matter in the Asian market. It is much easier to write characters on w bigger screen. I’m surprised the 6 plus doesn’t make up over half the devices sold in Asia.

    • jameskatt - 10 years ago

Some Asians have smaller hands and prefer the iPhone 6. Some Asians have big hands and prefer the iPhone 6 Plus.

Yee Haw!!!! The MOTHER of all upgrades. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are a Tsumani plus Hurricane that can devastate everything Android. It already is killing Samsung.
