Withings debuts Activité Pop smartwatch, brings an affordable splash of color to the original

Withings announced its new Activité Pop smartwatch today during CES. While the original model will set you back $450, the new “Pop” version will only cost you $150. For that much lower price you’ll gain the same fitness-tracking functionality of the original, including compatibility with the Health Mate mobile app. Oh, and an eight-month battery.

A secondary hand on the face of the watch provides a simple way to quickly check how much of your daily exercise routine you’ve completed. The Activité Pop can measure many activities, from running to swimming, and even monitor your sleep cycle. It even has a silent, vibration-based alarm to help you wake up.

On top of all of this, you’ll also be able to get the Pop in three new colors: Sand, Shark Grey, and Azure.

While it is certainly priced much lower than the $349 Apple Watch, the Activité Pop doesn’t boast quite the same feature set and may appeal to a different set of users. That being said, for the fitness-minded techie, Withings may have a hit on its hands (or rather, wrists).

The Activité Pop isn’t available for sale yet, but will be available exclusively through Best Buy’s web store for a limited time starting on January 5th. The full retail launch will take place in March.

That is the best looking smart watch I have seen, by far. That’s just a good looking watch, to be honest.

I’d like to hear more about that battery. Is it simy a watch battery or what?

I don’t know it looks like cheap plastic to me. Of course renders always look better than the real thing.

It’s just a regular old button cell battery according to the company’s website.

Believe I read its a traditional watch battery which should last 8 months….but replaceable of course

Is everything called a smartwatch these days? This seems more like a fitness band that looks like a traditional watch. But does it have GPS (which Watch gets knocked for)? What sensors does it have? Can it monitor your heart rate?

Not an insult, but my first reading on the name is “Activité Poop”.
