Apple Campus 2 to offer visitor’s center with rooftop observation deck, cafe, & store

While Apple’s ongoing development of its Campus 2 headquarters has been relatively secretive, Silicon Valley Business Journals today revealed a previously unknown detail about the headquarters. According to documents filed with the city of Cupertino, Apple’s new headquarters will feature a visitor’s center with an observation deck.

It was already known that Apple’s Campus 2 would not be visible from bordering streets, which seemed to contradict the amount of money and effort Apple was putting into the design of the building. The observation the company is planning, however, will “give visitors of Apple Campus 2 the opportunity to see the Main Building ” of the headquarters.

The observation deck and visitor’s center is a glass structure with a carbon-fiber roof and large skylights. The ground floor holds a 2,386-square-foot cafe, as well as a 10,114-square-foot store. The store will allow “visitors to view and purchase the newest Apple products.” Stairs and elevators will take visitors to the roof level, about 23 feet up, from which they’ll be able to view the campus.

Apple’s goal with its Campus 2 visitor’s center is to “create a public face of the Apple Campus 2 that reflects Apple’s business and design practices, and allows for a long-term presence in Cupertino.” The visitor’s center will be open 7AM to 7PM Monday through Friday and 9AM to 7PM on weekends.

Good, now next time I go to California I’ll be able to finally go to the gift shop. Went THREE WEEKS after they decided to close this year for renovations.

Still don’t get why Apple is rebuilding the store inside it current headquarters when the spaceship will have a store shortly after.

The stores sell different things. Campus 1 sells memorabilia, Campus 2 will sell actual products.

Oh yeah? I totally believe you, but.. where abouts does it say this online? I’d like to read up on it.

Most likely because IL will be kept occupied by Apple. It’s not like AC2 is large enough for all Apple rented spots around Cupertino to close. In fact, they are leasing 7 more offices in Sunnyvale

Finally! Went to visit their campus last year and hated the fact that the only place I could go was the store ,which I loved, and just around the building and nowhere else.

I don’t think there is any contradiction at all. Campus 2 isn’t being built to show off a building. It’s being built to house employees in a place where they can create great products.

I see chrish1961 already beat me to it, but this is just the most asinine piece of writing I’ve read on here in a while. I’m sure Chance Miller has a word count to reach so it was probably just in service of that but still…
There is no way Apple is putting the design effort into Campus 2 to please people speeding past on I280. They’re doing it to provide a great working environment for their employees. They don’t want people coming to the campus just to look at the architecture which is *why* they’re building the visitor center. This was the non-employee fanatics can get a glimpse of the spaceship and the employees can continue to enjoy their workspace without tourists milling around.
