Apple launches iSight camera replacement program for iPhone 6 Plus

Apple has discovered that a limited number of iPhone 6 Plus devices sold between September and January are affected by a manufacturing defect with the back camera. This defect causes photos taken with the back iSight camera to come out blurry. Apple will replace the camera in your affected device for free, if eligible. You can find out if you are eligible for a replacement by typing your serial number into this website, which will lookup if your phone is part of the batch with the manufacturing problem.

If your device is confirmed to be faulty, you can arrange a repair though Apple retail channels or over the phone. Apple will not hand out brand new replacement phones … only replace the iSight camera component within the iPhone 6 Plus. The 4.7 inch iPhone 6 is unaffected by this issue. Check the Apple site for more information.

So what are we supposed to do about our phones? Leave them with Apple for a few days? Weeks? To be repaired? With No Replacement?
    That’s A Bad Apple..!!!

Took my iPhone 6 plus in to the Apple Store yesterday because my camera wasn’t focusing. They took my phone and replaced the camera in less than an hour.

        thanks for the clarification, eleanos

Apple said in a statement, only nine (9) people complained about their 6 Plus’ camera. (Like in the iPhone 6 bending situation) (not real btw)

The iPhone bending issue is real. My brother got the 6 and it bent in his pocket so now overtime he unlocks it the up volume button acts like its being pressed. I also met someone who has the 6+ with blurry photos. They have to use the front camera for everything

You’re right man. I’ve seen people with bend iPhone 6s

Mine’s on the list, but I haven’t noticed any blurry photos.

Same here. Don’t plan on swapping out my phone.

      • You two should, or at least try. If your serial number is on there, then it could fail like the ones they’re mentioning. Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it couldn’t in the future.

That’s no reason to seek replacement. If you need it, you get it.

      • taoprophet420 - 9 years ago

You have 3 years to get the camera fixed.

Mine’s on the list, but I’ve only noticed a few blurry shots. I had put that down to operator error. For future certianty, I plan to take mine in for the repair.

    • iPhone 6+–great photos for 22 months then–bang–every shot is blurry. I’m on the list and will seek the repair.

It’s potential problem because of the faulty part(s). It may be working fine now, but it may show up later. My iPhone is also included, but my pictures show a different problem. Everything that’s not centered are skewed. Does anyone else have this problem?

the new 9to5mac site is not for working on safari help

    • No problems with Safari v8.0.8.

If you are running the latest Safari then check for any Safari extensions you may have installed that could be causing an incompatibility problem…

If one has AppleCare+, will they swap out the phone vs. doing the repair?

  8. Integ (@integ) - 9 years ago

I’ve taken thousands of photos with my 6+ and haven’t noticed any issues whatsoever. They all turn out great. Apple typically puts programs like this in place to avoid any potential class action lawsuits when a fault is discovered, so my guess is that’s why this program exists. It’s really more of a cover your ass program than anything else.

Just because your vehicle is not affected by a recall doesn’t mean that one day down the road it won’t happen to you. If a part has a huge failure rate or additional aging test were performed to determine that the part is no good after x amount of uses on x amount of phones then the only recourse is to replace the part. Why hide it and face a lawsuit down the road.
Right decision by Apple. Nothing is perfect and parts used by Apple are nothing special.

My 6 plus has always had a blur to photos. I considered taking it in for this reason before I heard of this. My serial number is not on the list however which makes me think they might expand the recall later. I have apple care+ though so I will just swap it at some point in the future.

This is where Apple stands out (and falters as well). They will own up to defects that can be fixed and offer a no hassle option to have it repaired, of course they also falter why they deny the iPhone 6/6 Plus did in fact bend when (stupid users) put them in their back pocket and sit on them. I never had my iPhone 6 Plus bend on my and I am happy to see the 6S Plus will be even stronger with a thicker paint job.

i love this site, let’s not call it what it actually is: recall.

Took mine today to Apple Store Liverpool UK – I had noticed blur which I attributed to camera shake, The genius tested the focus by focusing on his fingers at arms length. No blur no replacement. I asked managers view – no discernible fault no replacement – though I am covered for 2 years if it develops. Once again my experience of Apple stores declines. Anyone else yearn for the good old days.

I’ve had mine over a year and never had issues until this week. Could happen to you!

Just got an iPhone 7+. Same problem.
