We’ve seen some great photo galleries from professional photographers using the new iPhone 6s ahead of its retail launch today, but now we get our best look yet at the upgraded camera’s new 4K video ability courtesy of ryot.org
‘The Painter of Jalouzi’ is a short documentary (embedded below) following one man’s mission to transform a slum in Haiti by painting the drab surroundings on the town’s hillside buildings in bright colors. The film was done by David Darg & Bryn Mooser for Ryot and shot entirely on an iPhone 6s Plus. The team shared some thoughts on the experience filming with iPhone 6s Plus:
“When we look at the film now, even WE are surprised at how good it came out considering it was shot on, well, a telephone” Darg says, laughing. “In a relatively short amount of time, we went from terrible pixelated phone photos, to this, which is just as good as cameras that cost tens of thousands of dollars… “When we heard the new iPhone would shoot in 4K, we thought about what we could shoot that would really demonstrate the power of the resolution. Jalouzi is so visually impacting. The mountainside is full of detail and color, so it’s the ultimate test of a camera’s ability. Plus, we’ve been wanting to tell the story for a long time” David said.”

We noted previously that the several early image galleries and videos popping up from the new iPhones are usually shot on the 6s Plus rather than the 6s due to the larger model’s optical image stabilization feature that isn’t present on the smaller iPhone. Both of the new iPhones sport a 12-megapixel iSight camera with 1.22µ pixels, improved auto focus, and other software enhancements with iOS 9.

Apple has been promoting several photo galleries published in the weeks leading up to today’s retail iPhone launch. First we saw photos from the runways at New York Fashion Week via Vogue, followed by some shots from a recent MLB game published by Sports Illustrated, and most recently images in National Geographic from a photo shoot in China.
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus go on sale today around the world.

And the image quality is on the 6S is outstanding! I can see young aspiring filmakers take to the smartphone as their main tool now.
The quality is pretty darn nice, especially coming from a phone. I’m interested to see the BTS of this and what lens(es) they used to get the extreme shallow depth of field on some of these shots, as those clearly weren’t shot with the standard iPhone lens.
“4K Video is so pointless, I mean come on, you’d have to sit so much closer to your TV to notice the difference!!” – Apple apologist. This looks amazing, and I’m glad I have my Dell 4K display to watch all these new videos on — they look absolutely stunning!
I have to agree with you there, there is a noticeable difference in visual quality between 4K/UHD and standard FullHD, the latter looks blurry by comparison.

Obviously this is part of the Apple campaign. Unless these people prepare this in less than a day. ;-)
In reality though it doesn’t make sense to shoot Video professionally with an iPhone given the cheaper better tools available for that let alone storage limitations of an iPhone, etc.
I guess this showcase the level of quality an iPhone is capable of when pairing with lots of supporting gear and in professional hands which could equally be said of an LG G4 or Samsung S6.
Apple hands out new iPhones to photographers/videographers/reporters/bloggers in advance. after the iPhone presentation they get them to review and test. then when it is released they can present their thoughts (mostly great thoughts as those that praise get the goods next year too)

was having iPhone 6 plus and i have upgraded to 6s plus there are really very minor changes i think in the camera!! i really compared and i think that live photos is only new in camera. But anyway loving it!!

Decent quality for a phone, but it still does look like it was recorded with a phone and not a professional camera
It will never beat any professional full scale lens, that’d be violating the laws of optics or physics if you want.
For a thin smartphone, it’s pretty impressive how far we came from 5 years ago. Not everyone can afford $10K+ pro-camera setup but they can afford a smartphone.
