News concerning the expansion of Apple Pay has been coming at a rapid pace today. This morning, the service launched in Canada and expanded to Tesco Bank and TSB in the U.K. Then, Apple revealed that more than 100 new banks and credit unions in the United States now support its mobile payment solution. Now, Apple has announced that the service will soon be supported at Dominos and Cinnabon, two popular food chains in the United States.
The AP reports Cinnabon will begin adding Apple Pay to all of its U.S. locations next year, while Domino’s, the popular pizza chain, will support it by the end of 2015 in company-owned stores. This news follows the announcement earlier this year that Starbucks will begin a pilot program this year for supporting Apple Pay in its retail locations, with a full rollout taking place next year.
KFC is also expected to launch support for Apple in the Spring of 2016. Likewise, Chili’s is said to be installing iPads at tables in its restaurants to allow users to pay via Apple Pay directly from their seat.
Apple Pay has been expanding rather quickly over recent months. The service launched in Canada this morning and will launch in Australia later this week. These new countries follow the launch of Apple Pay in the U.K. a few months ago. Meanwhile, Tim Cook has proclaimed 2015 the “year of Apple Pay.” Some retailers, however, have questioned the uptake of the platform.

The slow rollout has been very disappointing. Apple timed the release perfect in the US with most retailers updating to EMV terminals that support NFC. The lack of rollout is Europe is disappointing.
Apple hasn’t made a push on store card support or loyalty reweds. Express was the first stores to support store cards and loyalty rewards with Apple Pay. By now you would think Apple would have a store card or royalty card section in the app store.
I get tired of the Apple added 6 bank,10 banks etc stories. It should simply work with all US vis, mastercard,amex and Discover cards regardless of the bank. The token system Apple Pay uses was developed by Visa and is processed by Visa as I understood it at launch.
Loyalty card and store card support would help adoption a lot. Those stores also typically have the most advanced terminals.

I don’t really use Apple Pay that much anymore simply bc I just don’t think about it and I use my Google Wallet Debit card more than anything. I used it at first with my Chase Debit and Amex card, so don’t mind me if I’m not making sense. BUT, anywhere I used it that the wireless contact logo, Apple Pay worked. I could go to the no name smoke shop on the corner and if their swipe machine had the wireless logo on it, Apple Pay just worked… Is that not the case now? Even with the whole CVS temporarily dropping Apple Pay in late 2014/early 2015 it still worked there at that time. Or is this about Domino’s making a loyalty card available on it? Am I missing something? They make it seem like it only works at select retailers and I’ve yet to run across an NFC machine that wouldn’t take it.. But taoprophet420 is 100% correct, MAKE IT WORK WITH ALL MASTERCARD, VISA, AMEX AND DISCOVER CARDS. Not select issuers…
The more merchants the merrier. Today I used Apple Pay with my Kohl’s card and had auto service paid with Apple Pay at Pep Boys.
Cinnabon to me is a mall and airport store so it will be useful when traveling and needing a snack. I can order pizza using Apple Pay through the Eat24 app at my local pizzeria but having a major retailer like Dominos commit to such an aggressive time frame means they must have already been testing it out.
So along with KFC, Chili’s, Starbucks, BestBuy, JC Penney and BJ’s Wholesale club are implementing their payment/loyalty cards like Kohl’s. The merchant growth is definitely chugging along.
With touch payment literally everywhere in the UK, I’m astounded banks are signing up to pay Apple a chunk of their revenue. Touching my wallet to the POS sensor is quicker than touching my phone and holding my thumb in the right spot. Why bother using your phone when it’s the worse experience of the 2 options?
