Got my copy of this from the giveaway. I also was accepted into the VLC beta testing for Apple TV. Using these two together could be quite interesting for dealing with my DVD and BD collection with my Apple TV.
Why on earth would you use this over Handbrake?

I got the “free” version, and was told to upgrade to the “full” version. So what is the difference between this giveaway version and the real thing? Just the inability to upgrade?
So I got a free version and find that it has a limit of 5 minutes ripping unless I pay for the full version. This is nothing but an evaluation copy. Full version of the software? I think not.
This just smells of scam unfortunately. With the posts of “having to upgrade” and looking over the free version features set. Its definitely missing some key features over the “retail” equivalent.
This being said, why oh why would you use this over handbrake +mkv .. especially for Blue Rays? The Free version doesn’t offer the Copy protection bypass so you either end up using handbrake + mkv anyway, or shell out money for the “upgrade”.
You don’t have to upgrade. You can then keep the full version unless you try to update, remove the license yourself, format/replace the hard drive or reinstall the whole system once you registered the program before the deadline.

WTF?!? The code it gives me doesn’t work. So, in essence, I have a copy that is limited to 5 minutes. 9to5, this is on you to correct your article. I hope that you err on the side of protecting your integrity.
Did you install from the file named “macx-dvd-ripper-pro-giveaway.dmg” or did you install from “macx-dvd-ripper-pro.dmg”?
Did anyone complaining about the “5 minute limit” follow the link to get and enter the free serial number for the giveaway, or did you just download the free version?
