Fitbit’s latest Blaze activity tracker/watch has color, 5-day battery & Apple Watch ‘style’

fitbit blaze ces 2016 5

[Update (1/6 10:30am): Fitbit Blaze is now available for pre-order from Amazon and Best Buy.]

This morning Fitbit took the stage at CES to announce its latest activity tracker. The Fitbit Blaze sits between the Charge HR and Surge trackers in the company’s current product lineup. While it may look a whole lot like many full-blown iOS/Android smartwatches, its main focus is still fitness rather than third-party app complications.

Update: Fitbit’s stock price is plummeting on the news that it is entering Apple’s Watch realm.  As of this writing, the stock price is down 11% and falling. Investors clearly aren’t fans.

Blaze is the first Fitbit to feature a high-resolution color touchscreen LCD display. It comes with a elastomer band and stainless steel frame, but in a move reminiscent to Apple’s attention to style with its Watch, Fitbit is also offering a wide range of different bands and frames. You can even customize its look even more through a variety of clock faces. But so far there’s no sign of Mickey, so Apple wins in that regard.

Blaze was designed to help you get in the best shape of your life by offering valuable health data, motivational coaching, and detailed workout instructions with animated images. PurePulse delivers all-day heart rate information that can “help you maintain workout intensity and better track calories burned during each workout” and provide vital data like “resting heart rate and heart rate trends over time.” Other features like Multi-Sport and SmartTrack take the pain out of logging individual workouts. A single charge is estimated to last up to 5-days.

Aside from its fitness tracking abilities, Blaze can also relay call, text and calendar alerts, as well as adjust volume and song selection from your iPhone or Android smartphone.

There is some resemblance to what Apple is doing but clearly the focus here is on fitness. Fitbit Blaze can be pre-ordered now with a black, blue, or plum band for $199.95 and is expected to be released in March. Looking for a deal on a current generation Fitbit? The Charge is on sale for $89.99 (Reg. $130) and the Charge HR is down to $109.99 (Reg. $150).

5 day battery in a smart watch? LMAO! Its 18k gold that matters. idk who would buy something as useless a “something that isnt an apple watch” product. Plus no bluray player!

I became really turned off of Fitbit when they decided not to support HealthKit, then when they were plagued with the rash issues and subpar performance of their HR monitor. I’m also not quite sold on the design; it looks okay but I’m not a fan of the sharp edges and gaps in the frame.

That being said, I think the Blaze does have a great feature set, though real-world performance is yet to be determined. If the second Apple Watch comes with fitness features like these (auto activity tracking, auto sleep tracking and GPS especially) it’d be a killer device. There’s so much Apple can bring to the fitness space.

I’ve been holding out for Apple Watch 2 and I’m pretty much sold on it already without even knowing what it does. If Apple disappoints though, I can see myself wearing one of these.

Fitbit stock down 13% today so Wall Street obviously isn’t loving this.

    • Aunty T (@AuntyTroll) - 8 years ago

Apple shares are down 2.29% today.

      Just saying.

    • chrisl84 - 8 years ago

Apple is 20% since the launch of the Apple Watch which is much more telling than a “one day reaction”…..but that wont matter to you

      • chrisl84 - 8 years ago

        *down 20%

      • That has more to do with concerns over iPhone sales and inventories than anything else.

      • rogifan - 8 years ago

And that’s because of iPhone not Apple Watch.

      • chrisl84 - 8 years ago

Sure, investors are all about the Apple Watch but the iPhone is dragging it down….whatever you say.

      • alexandereiden - 8 years ago

The stock is down solely because of iPhone sale worries, not the Apple Watch (which is already the number one smart watch in the market). (In terms of sales. Not revenue, but total devices sold).

Get your facts right and start investing. Apple is cheap now, I just bought more stock myself.

      • chrisl84 - 8 years ago

Sure it is….the stock has been pathetic for a year, the reports on reducing the iPhone supply came out yesterday…..whatever you say. Apple Watch is carrying Apple Stock to new highs as we speak

      • alexandereiden - 8 years ago

App store hit a record as Apple announced today (perhaps you missed this?). Also Apple had 49% of device activations this holiday season, again surpassing every other tech company. Apple is doing quite well, or so it seems. We will know for sure January 26th. However the entire market is down recently, especially with oil below 35 a barrel, so this last week isn’t fair to any company to say because of poor sales.

However, this year most Apple stock options expire, which is a huge reason for the stock fall, not just sales worries.

Either way, Apple will not and cannot just die. The company won’t go bye bye tomorrow. They are still the most valuable company on the planet and will be into the foreseeable future.

      • chrisl84 - 8 years ago

“The stock is down solely because of iPhone sale worries”……but apparently, also a huge reason is stock options expired. Yadda Yadda Yadda, Apple is under performing point blank period. Will they rebound, of course…..never said they wouldn’t. But anyone coming here to laugh at Fitbit stock while drinking Apple coolaid better wake up

    Ugly clone

  6. calisurfboy - 8 years ago

I love my Fitbit Charge HR but this looks like a cheap Chinese knock off Apple Watch that you can win in a drop-claw arcade game.

  7. sardonick - 8 years ago

If it works the same as the other gimmicky junk from fitbit, no. Build stuff that works. Oh yea, I forgot, nobody cares about that, they only care about keeping up with the jones’ and getting another dollar.

  8. Graham J - 8 years ago

I’ll consider FitBit again when they start supporting HealthKit. I still have to do a workaround to connect my Aria.

  9. Matt Sims - 8 years ago

I think its obvious to all that corners were cut in the development of this product.

  10. varera (@real_varera) - 8 years ago

Oh, thanks you Fitbit, a year after I have switched to Apple watch because of non-existent calendar alerts you have decided to add them. Too little too late.
