OS X 10.11.3 hits the Mac App Store for all users

MacBook OS X El Capitan

Heads up to all El Capitan users: OS X 10.11.3 is now available through the Mac App Store. Apple released the first developer beta version of the software update in mid-December after shipping OS X 10.11.2 earlier in the month. The second OS X 10.11.3 beta followed at the start of January. Apple has since started testing OS X 10.11.4.

As the version number suggests, OS X 10.11.3 so far hasn’t included any major feature changes or enhancements, although we’ll update our coverage if anything significant is discovered.

The update further addresses lingering bugs and performance issues hanging around the Mac software. The last OS X El Capitan beta once again saw AT&T’s NumberSync feature for bridging iPhone phone numbers to the Mac return, for example, after the feature was trialled in previous releases.

The upcoming OS X 10.11.4 release includes new features like secure password protected Notes and Live Photo viewing in the Messages app and sharing over iMessage.

OS X 10.11.3 release notes

As ever, head to the Mac App Store and look for the new release in the Updates tab. Be sure to shout our way if you discover anything new and experience any issues with the software. The download runs about 661 MB in total and does require a restart.

Update went quickly and smoothly on a 27” iMac 14,2 (late 2013) from OS X 10.11.2. Absolutely no issues to report.

  5. I wish they would ad a feature to burn movies to DVD.. really miss being able to use iDVD..

  6. Upgraded to OS X 10.11.3 today on my mini – now time machine just gives me a black screen with a cursor. Great.

    • I have noticed that on both of my laptops that more often than not, Time Machine backup simply hangs at random moments. I have to cancel out and restart the backup.

Combo update for both my iMac 5K late 2015 and MacBook Pro early 2015 – all working well.

    I upgraded to 10.11.3

Then things got very bad. My 21.5inch early 2013 iMac had major problems.

    * Can’t open system preferences panes. Error message “could not load” when going vie Time Machine Preferences
    * Finder > Applications folder. Window opens, 12 minutes later icons appear. They’re all generic (278 files)
    * Apps won’t open, error message “damaged or incomplete”.
    * Booted into safe mode, same issues.

Start up from bootable backup of 10.11.2, restored HD from time machine. Now running 10.11.2, afraid to try updating again.
I downloaded the “OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 Combo Update”, how is this different than the app store version?

  10. Updated to my Mini 2012, so many problems. Everything is frozen. Everything is not responding!!!!!!!!!!! Why?!
