Fitbit announces fashion-oriented leather/metal fitness band, Alta

alta

Fitbit didn’t exactly impress the market when it tried to launch a full-blown smartwatch last month, its stock price falling 11% in response to the idea of the company seemingly attempting to compete with the Apple Watch. It may have better luck with its latest offering, a fashion-oriented fitness band called Alta offering five days of battery-life. The emphasis here is on style, the $130 unit available with both leather bands ($60) and stainless steel bracelet ($100).

The Fitbit Alta will be available for pre-order from tomorrow at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and other retail sites, with shipping in March or April, depending on configuration.

The number 3 fitness app in the app store…..no one forgot.

This is the first step to irrelevancy. I knew BlackBerry was dead the moment they announced a keyboardless phone. FitBit never would have done anything like this if the Apple Watch didn’t exist, not ever. This is grasping at straws in an effort to stay in the news. Also, the app is not the same thing as the device… I think. *sings Follow the Leader*

  2. It’s amazing how many companies try to best Apple while completely ignoring one of Apple’s basic principles: Fewer products of higher quality. How many more activity trackers is Fitbit planning to release? Their website lists these eight activity trackers: Zip, One, Flex, Charge, Alta, Charge HR, Blaze, and Surge. (http://www.fitbit.com/)

Does anyone look to Fitbit and hope for a more fashionable wearable? “Gee, I would love to buy a Fitbit, but only if I can get one with a leather or stainless steel band.” Anyone who thinks that way (fashion first) already has so many great options to consider.

Apple basic principle is fewer products….you must live in 2008 still….Hello, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 5se, iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Touch….how is this at all different from a variety of fitness trackers at different levels of functionality and price points.

Because they got so good at making a few products of a higher level of quality they they’ve slowly expanded into more products of a higher level of quality.

We’ve got us a koolaid drinker

      • I think the more meaningful comparison would be between Apple and Samsung, comparing their smartphone offerings.
