Bring a tiny bit of gaming nostalgia to your Apple Watch with new ‘Tiny Game of Pong’ app

Bring a little bit of nostalgia to your wrist today with the new Apple Watch game, A Tiny Game of Pong. Based on the 1970’s classic game, A Tiny Game of Pong lets players compete to beat the computer or against friends through Game Center leaderboard integrations. But how do you fit Pong on a tiny display?

The game makes use of the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown to move the player’s paddle left and right across the screen. Using the crown feels like a natural fit into the gaming experience and I was surprised at how well it really worked.

The free version of the game lets players play a never-ending game pitted against a relentless computer in an unbeatable match. Though I knew this information, none of it changed the fun I had while playing.

With a $0.99 in-app upgrade, classic playoff mode can be unlocked to allow challenging the computer and player against a one-on-one match in a first to three game.

Features
• Responsive Analog Controls – turn the Digital Crown to move your paddle.
• Two Unique Game Modes – endless Arcade and Classic playoff mode.
• Compete with friends for high scores with Game Center integration on Apple Watch.
• Personalize your game to your Apple Watch band style with ten theme colors.
• Plays standalone without iPhone.

The game is classically fun and a quick way to kill some time without pulling out your iPhone, making this a nice addition to the Apple Watch’s limited gaming platform.

A Tiny Game of Pong is available for free in the App Store for a limited time. For $0.99 users can unlock additional features and help further support development of the game.

  1. So clearly that should be played leftright across the Watch instead of up-down. Then there’s a direct relationship between the Digital Crown and the paddle.

Eh, just tried it, makes more sense how it is, because the paddle ends up being next to you while the opponent is opposite you.

Looking up PONG, there are other versions that work as you are saying. What is really looking more Interesting is ‘Lateres’ Classic Breakout game for the watch. I’m going to check out that one also.

This is actually pretty cool. Lovely UX & typography design too.

I don’t the graphics on the watch are up to handling the game. Very laggy for me.

We still have a gaming “console” that you plug into the aerial socket of the TV and have to tune it in… you have two wired “controllers” with a rotating knob… the console came with 3 games built in – classic pong, football (soccer), and ice hockey… (with the latter games you just had more paddles on screen and a goal area)

So the idea of moving the crown is just like rotating the knob :-)

BUT $0.99 – such a classic game with low graphics…there shouldnt be any costs involved.
