Fix or trade in those old iPhones and iPads, they are worthless rotting in a drawer

A few months ago we teamed up with two of the leaders in the iPhone/iPad/tech repair business iFixyouri and Myphones Unlimited to help you guys fix or get big bucks for your old or broken devices. We’ve got solid feedback and have some offers to provide today. For getting cash, we can get you an additional $10 on cash back by using code “marchmadness“. It will add $10 across the board on all items to an already high cash back bounty. It obviously won’t work on non-value/recycled items however. But that’s an extra $10-er in your pocket and the code is valid through the end of March and is a great way to get some cash to buy stuff unveiled for Apple’s March event.

As for repairs, I’ve successfully used iFixyouri many times in the past but I thought I’d put together a quick video or 3 on what the process is like:

And how did they come back…?

It takes about 5 minutes to enter your device information into the site and get a  few emails back. One of them will have your UPS label. Print it out and take it to your nearest UPS location. Begining to end, the whole process took under 20 minutes.

About a week later I got a package from UPS with some fresh new items inside.

Oh my God, $10 extra for a used iPhone or iPad? That’s madness! Sign me up. That’s enough to cover the cost of a whole six pack, plus tax.

The first video posted became private.

Any recommendations for similar services in the UK? (I find it very hard to be sure from online reviews how good any of them actually are…)

I would like to have seen them power on so we can also inspect the new display quality. It seems impossible for any third-party to have genuine third party displays.

Damn this stupid comment system. Seriously! It’s 2016! Can we have an edit feature like theverge???

I meant to say, it seems impossible for a third-party to use genuine Apple parts in any of their repairs. Unless, you know, they but the phones that don’t work and salvage the parts…

I sent an Ipad to IResQ for a screen repair on an out of warranty iPad, they kind of screwed up and the screen didn’t align properly, but they had me send back at no charge and it was sent back repaired properly. So even though they didn’t do a perfect job the first time out, they did do a great job on the second go around. It was less than going with Apple directly on that one repair.

One thing that stands out to me is that I am looking at how my iPad was packaged and the place I sent it to shipped me a professional shipping container with foam lining and it got sent back to me with the same shipping container. The way everything is packaged with the units in the video seem like they could have done a little more professional job by having better shipping containers for each device. Just a quick observation.

Original iPad (best design ever, strong, looked nice, and controls easier to operate), won’t even run even close to a recent build of iOS, whilst my £50 Alba 10″ Android tablet, and all manner of other Android devices will run ALL of Google’s latest apps and most if not all 3rd party on the their Kitkat or Lollipop builds. Have saved a fortune! 4 tablets for the price of one that’s more shiny. :)

This post motivated me to check Craigslist to see how much I can get my iPad Air 2 (completely shattered) screen fixed for. Apple charges like $400 (!!!) for a screen replacement, and while most of the quotes were around $240-$300, I found a guy who is actually licensed that says he can do it for $109. I’ll find out tomorrow the quality of the screen/labor.
