Scanner Pro for iOS updated to version 7 w/ text recognition, workflows, more

IMG_0533

Scanner Pro for iOS has today received a hefty update. The latest update brings the app to version 7 and includes a host of new features, including text recognition, quality improvements, workflows, and much more.

The biggest new feature of Scanner Pro 7 is text recognition. Now, users can scan a document using their iPhone and Scanner Pro can automatically convert the scan into a text document that is able to be edited, copied, and selected. This feature is huge for people who want to modify the content they scan in, such as documents, notes for school, and more.

Scanner Pro 7 also makes several improvements to the quality of scans. The app includes improved distortion correction, so whenever you scan a document, it’s as clear as possible. Furthermore, there’s improved color processing to better handle documents with images.

You can also now set up workflows within Scanner Pro 7 to quickly do things such as send an email with the document to a predetermined recipient, upload it to Dropbox, or save it to a folder. With workflow support, these functions can be performed in just one tap.

Finally, there are a variety of interface tweaks throughout the application that the developers say make it faster and easier to use.

Scanner Pro 7 is available for $3.99 on the App Store for new users and is a free update to existing users.

One of the handiest Apps we have. We never use the scanner part of our Epson Printer any more. Just lay the document on the table in the sun, pull out your phone, and click you have the image. These improvements will make a good product even better.

Agreed. I love this app. I use it constantly. I am an iPad user and try to live in a paperless society. So anytime someone hands me paper, I pop open the Scanner pro app, and take the scans. It’s connected to my iCloud Drive so it automatically appears on my computer and iPad ready for me.

The OCR feature works well – though it has some difficulty with underlined text.

I’ve never liked anything from this developer except maybe PDF Expert. The UI is always really off for me. I currently use Tiny Scanner for scanning. I might revisit this one and look at the new changes.

Well, their PR manager is at its best. Paid reviews (with referral iTunes links) at all major Apple websites…

A shame that Scanner Pro has OCR, but you cannot save searchable PDF’s like Microsoft Office Lens. Then you can save a document as PDF, AND search & copy the text within that PDF. Perfect if you want to go paperless.

The quality of PDF scans are very good though with Scanner Pro. But unfortunately like mentioned before, no support for searchable PDF’s.

Alternatively, one might want to look into Scanbot as an alternatively to Scanner Pro. The folder metaphor is not as slick as with Scanner Pro here, but does OCR, QR codes, barcodes, and borders auto detect without you even having to press a button. And, it is also available on both Android platforms as well as iOS.

I am using Scanner Pro for sometime and I was very pleased with it in general. Yesterday when I opened the app to get some of my documents, I found all my documents are gone. I don’t know what happens and why my documents are erased? Does anyone come cross such thing? If yes is there any way I can recover my lost documents?
