3G iPhone enters manufacturing - ships soon?

Wed, 03/26/2008 - 04:21 — Andy Space

Apple has instructed its manufacturers to produce ten million new model iPhones, equipped with 3G support, a report claims.

Interviewed by iPod Observer, Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney makes the claims, citing "sources in Asia". The analyst speculates the new model iPhone may feature and environmentally-friendly OLED display. As well as being a little more green-friendly, the display technology promises better battery life.

The news suggests Apple may introduce a new 3G iPhone within the first half of 2008, with strong signals suggesting the new breed will appear in June.

IT is appearing more and

IT is appearing more and more likely that Apple will release the 3G iPhones during the launch of the SDK.

June it is

Absolutely. Apple doesn't want demand shortages. Apple being apple I'd say they'll wait. Apple in cell-phone world, though . . . they may have to jump earlier for a Japanese release. They are losing opportunities abroad.

I'll believe it when I see

I'll believe it when I see the FCC filing. Until then, dream on folks

I agree. This is a product

I agree. This is a product Apple will not be able to spring upon us like other 'one more thing' moments. If it was going to be here by June, we'd know more than this by now.

I predict an announcement of it in June- probably at the same time the SDK drops, with a true release in 3rd or 4th qtr.

The OLED display has me

The OLED display has me skeptical to be honest. The technology is still in it's infancy, and the longevity of the display will be an issue. 3g is likely though.

I find it funny that all these analysts are suddenly throwing in news from their "sources"; all within the same week Kevin Rose announces his initial news (who was completely wrong with his pre-launch iPhone predictions). The 3g speeds and forward facing camera is more likely, OLED would be pushing it.

OLED should free you.

OLED is very hot and offers Apple an incredible opportunity for a folding phone. Not only that but they are thinner, lower power and brighter. Frankly I expect OLED before a camera built into the display. The technology is very hot and is the talk of the optics world. Photonics/Spectra had some interesting coverage last year with respect to OLEDs.

Another company has let slip that it expects to have a phone out by June that has a roll out screen. The phone itself would be the size of a small scroll from the dark ages.

OLED-Displays

Organic light emitting diode is really a great technology.
Oled-displays are:
* brighter and more brilliant picture
* unlimited viewing angle
* low power consumption
* economic production
* fast "response time"

Apple freakin' rules!

Apple freakin' rules!
