What were you expecting?

4234

Did you see the piucture of the PC during Jobs' unveiling of the new iMac? That tells you why he didn't push the Mini - too many wires!

Forget the Cube - it's history

iLife got a huge update. All new GarageBand UI, all new iMovie

iWork Blogger tools - what about iWeb with support Google Adsense, etc

No Blu-ray or HD-DVD? I think you've answered that - there's no clear standard to support. As soon as a winner shows up in that race we'll see the update. I agree with you about the black border.

Cheers
Anthony

Missing Blu-ray is indeed conspicuous

3933

Apple was an early member of the Blu-ray consortium, and recent shifts in the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD (such as the US Blockbuster chain's decision to stock only Blu-ray discs for high def renters) have prompted many pundits to predict Blu-ray as the inevitable winner. Given that Apple's new iMacs and recent MacBook Pros come with such great displays and that the AppleTV ecosystem is starved for HD content, the absence of a Blu-ray drive option from Apple on any of its products is indeed perplexing. Perhaps they're waiting for the release of OS 10.5. If October comes and goes without any Blu-ray options from Apple, something is seriously wrong. Sadly, this is not a space in which Apple is leading.

Are you kidding me? I am not

3433

Are you kidding me? I am not spending 20 bucks on a dvd. Yes, I know HD quality. It is nice. I am not putting together a collection of disks that are going to be as obsolete as my mac will be in a few more years.....If you are a movie afico.,buy an external...If I buy any type of movie it will be downloadable..... I already have to much shit in my house (gotta quit collecting older macs). That is what makes the ether so nice... It is all held in this imaginary world of ones and zeros....I hope I do not sound rude. Just stating my opinion...

Blu-Ray HD-DVD

3842

There are a couple drives out there that play both formats, i keep wondering why apple doesn't just through one of them in.

BD-UP5000- Samsung- First and Best, not shipping yet

BH-100- Can't Do INteractive HDDVD menus, LG

Why no touch screen iMacs?

Why no touch screen iMacs?

in what way would a touch

4644

in what way would a touch screen mac make the imac any better? just to say that is has a multitouch interface? or just for the sake of adding technology?

what would you use the touch interface for and how would it REALLY improve the imac to a point where your disappointment was assuaged?

the upgrades were good, i personally don;t blame apple for not trying to re-invent the wheel...

a touch screen (especially a

3632

a touch screen (especially a multitouch screen) would be a boon for those using their Macs as part of an audio workstation, especially if they need to make real time changes in a live setting.

Disappointed

3736

I was hoping for a new MBP 17" with LED backlight, and / or an UltraMobile MAC.
A press conference to just talk about software updates is not as exciting as when we get to see new hardware.

The black and aluminum style

2835

The black and aluminum style reminds me too much of Dell PCs. I think white and aluminum would have looked a lot better.

Everything was inline with

3433

Everything was inline with expectations. Nothing as outlandish as some of the people dreaming about new technology wanted, but about good. I'm happy with iLife, but the one thing I wish they would do is make the formating and layout of the iPhoto Database not suck. At the finder level it makes no sense at all.

Spelling

3938

"Disappointing", not "dissapointing". Especially irritating when it's in the headline.

Re: Spelling: My bad

Apologies. I took the (Parisian) afternoon off but it's fixed now. If only we had spell check for headlines...

Appreciate the comment!

No iPods!! ugh!!

3643

I was hoping for some more info on the 6th generation iPod. Anyway Jobs will tell us soon. And could you at least give some info about the iPods coming out in September because your really teasing us with that.

What about .Mac... that's

What about .Mac... that's dissapointing. It still is very s-l-o-w

The Desktop and the Laptop

4330

I wrote down in advance what I expected them to announce, and I had gotten it 95% correct. I expected a quad-core iMac, but they Core 2 Extreme isn't quad core. Otherwise, perfect. I was excited, not disappointed.

What do you want Apple to do? Announce everything on one day and have no press events for the rest of the year? Even if they could update all products and create everyone's fantasy products all at the same time, and even if they had the capital to manufacture and distribute them all at once, they would spread out the announcements for maximum effect.

When your expectations are not tempered with reality, and your fantasies get out of control, Apple could announce a cure for cancer and you'd be disappointed they didn't reverse global warming.

No AppleTV update and GMA950 (ugh)

3340

Well, they updated the complete line with Gigabit Ethernet, including the Airport Extreme. What about AppleTV? I think that we'll see an update to this soon. Of course, I want them to announce TV Shows and Movies for Canada, too!

I don't mind the MacMini updates, but they would have been better if they upgraded the GMA950 video, too!

iMac Gfx card disappointement

4235

I think the new machine's awesome in most ways (certainly in the eye-candy stakes, and the new iLife looks great), but the failure to offer a decent gaming card upgrade was hugely disappointing, particularly given the WWDC keynote talk about more games for the mac. I was planning to switch to an iMac, and probably still will do, but this just means I'll have keep a PC on my desk as well as the iMac for when Crysis comes out and I want to play it on ultra-high detail. I was hoping to ditch Windows for home use altogether, the biggest disappointment of August 7th was that it looks like I'm stuck with it for the near future...

Why not make the apple

3039

Why not make the apple screen completely a screen! The bottom empty silver space with the Apple logo is aesthetically disturbing!

In addition, I believe

3637

In addition, I believe shipping the iMacs with a wireless keyboard/mouse would have made it that much cleaner and gorgeous.

Ok, so I am new to the mac

4247

Ok, so I am new to the mac community (Oct 07) and I am thrilled by the items that came out. I guess for me it is all so wonderful and new. I think you long-time users have your bar set way too high. I have noticed that Apple and third-party companies have such and incredible speed in development. Every day it seems great things keep coming out or being improved. There was nothing disappointing about Aug 7 to me. iMovie was horrible and now it appears to actually be an awesome and easy program. The mouse over feature in iPhoto and events is truly logical and cool. And .Mac finally having some respectable storage and a more realistic tie-in to the programs has made me consider keeping it for another year.

IPODS

3332

Enough teasing. When will the new one be released, how will it be different, and will the prices on the current 30/80 gig come down??

Ipods Again

4238

If the new Ipods were to have wifi would they have to be approved by the FCC. Cause if that is the case I doubt they are gonna come out with wifi, unless they announce them and then release them later like the iphone, anyone know how long it takes to get FCC approval?

Getting FCC approval doesn't

4432

Getting FCC approval doesn't take a certain amount of time. It depends heavily on what band range you're in, how strong your signal is, and what the type of your product is (for example FM transmitter, walkie talkie, etc). It takes anywhere between a few months to literally years.

However, there is a set range which if your product falls into you don't need any approval. I believe it's somewhere between 10 to 20 feet and if that's really the range of your signal, then you don't have to go through the approval process.

I don't know about Wi-Fi, but wireless transfers for iPods would be pretty awesome. Even if it's 10 feet. As in just put your iPod on your desk next to your computer, or in your pocket while you're on your laptop, and update your songs. You need iTunes to do it anyway...

Unfair Survey

3841

I think your "survey" is not fair to Apple. You didn't even put an option that enables us to express satisfaction with the product announcements. To make matters worse, I cannot post a comment without choosing one of your choices.

Personally I think it was a satisfactory presentation. The iMac is nice (better than the all white plastic it replaces) and the updates to iWork, iLife and .Mac might be what ends up convincing me to finally get a .Mac account (I have refused so far, thinking that there weren't any really compelling reasons to subscribe).

Unless you had unrealistic expectations, this was an very good product presentation (I can remember many events like this one in the past that really sucked).

Macmanager: How, oh how, can

3738

Macmanager:
How, oh how, can the new aluminum imac remind you of a Dell? A DELL!! Did you not SEE the design, the lines, the subtle ways the elements integrate, the merciless eye for detail? If this doesn't ring any bells, visual design may not be your forte. By the same token, the creator of this poll certainly doesn't do very well either: the black glass frame of the screen is actually a brilliant move -- making it larger, more chique, and more apt to visually rich experiences. I for one express my admiration towards the design team. Good job. Yay team.

Having said that, GET US OUR FREAKIN 6G IPODS ALREADY. If only so we Europeans too can enjoy a touch screen ipod ;-)

Glossy screen: disaster
Black border: unnecessary, just so people would n`t say: "It`s the same!"
Graphic cards: ok, very cheap, value stuff; but WHY there is no upgrade option?

I like the black border around the awesome glossy display!
