Because it would be AWESOME for browsing the web, reading documents, sending email and watching videos in ways that my iphone just isn't.
My iPhone is a phone and a quick info device. But it would be great to have something larger. Say... the size of a paperback book or even the size of a computer book (not as thick, but you get the idea).
I suspect that all of the choices listed will be in some way discussed. iPod tablet the least likely but possible. I would like to see a solid product line update and a new line announced because of my financial interest in AAPL.
I really don't get you guys that dis the idea of a larger Touch. This is exactly what I'm looking for!
There are multiple reasons. One is that the large screen simply offers up more info on screen and is a better way to deliver video. Second; a larger screen would make for better touch operation especially the keyboarding. Larger screen means even more apps become viable.
In any event as long as it fit into a pocket I'm all for a larger iPod Touch or for that matter a larger iPhone. Access to a cell network would be ideal.
Where are the cinema display refresh. The things are down right clunky compared to the I-Macs. I would say that Blu-Ray integration in the product-line is on the way in the next tower. Also a revision of the Mac Mini should be underway with the Mac Clone starting to surface. I mid-size tower that can compete on cost and power in the line-up with an enterprise cost separation between monitor and tower. The I-Mac is not enterprise cost effective because there is always the purchase of a monitor with the computer with an I-Mac, and the towers are a bit pricey regardless of the superiority to other towers. Something with the power or a little more of the I-Mac with a smaller cost than the Tower. Also expect gaming gaming gaming announcements.
One overlooked definite will be new monitors with built in iSights. Expect thinner, more curvy iPhone like monitors.
On the edge of the possible would be curved monitors (not likely but would it be cool)
The tablet would be fantastic. This would become THE most commonly used computing device in the house. Currently - opening a laptop to read the web is antisocial - the screen folds up and you are cut off. As my wife says - are you on the computer again??? Enter the tablet with no keyboard (just an iPhone like keyboard) and you are no-longer "on the computer" you are just browsing - just like someone reading a magazine. It's got wifi, bluetooth but no CD/DVD.
I'm expecting a shock and awe campaign this keynote. I think Apple will start with a major product announcement pre-keynote - maybe a week before hand. This might be the new monitors with iSights. Then the keynote will be new macpro, mackbook pro in the first half. The second half will be new 3g iPhone in 3 capacities / three colours. Possibly an iPhone nano. The 'one last thing' will be the wireless tablet.
Let's keep in mind that this is WWDC and not Mac World. Not that all of those wouldn't be fantastic, but seriously, how underwhelming and overlooked would Mac World seem? I think that all of these happening at the same time is a bit of a pipe dream. New cinema displays and a diversified iPhone line-up with spec bumps? Then later on in the year do a total MacBook, MacBook Pro remodel with the iTablet/iSlate introduced?
I Not only think Apple will update the MacBook/MacBook Pro, but I also would not be surprised for them to unveil some sort of digital camera similar in design to the iPhone/iPod Touch. You never know...
I am hoping to see an update/replacement for the Mac Mini. What I would like to see is a bigger package with desktop components, with specs similar to the current iMacs.
New Cinema Displays that's all I want to see at WWDC 2008, i'm tired of hearing about this iPhone, yea it's a great phone but it's been out sense last June and every time I check on news on Apple it's the same thing every day IPHONE, let's talk about something else like Cinema Displays that's the only area Apple is lacking on.
I'll second the earlier comment on OS X 10.6. I don't think they'll have a build for developers yet, but I think they'll announce at least some internal (API) features and have sessions on them. A WWDC without anything new is pretty dull (iPhone SDK isn't new enough).
Am I the only one that feels like Apple is gearing up to take over the living room? I'm suprised more hasn't been discussed on the displays and apple tv.
Think about this: new flat panel displays with Apple TV built in. Maybe it includes a DVD or Blueray drive, maybe it includes Time Capsule? Maybe all 3? Less wires, cleaner design, seems to make sense to me...
I'm pining for a 3G iPhone, but if there was also a large format iPod touch then Apple would get two sales out of me. I can see so many uses for such a device. If it has a good 7" screen it would be awesome for video of course, but also as an ebook reader (kindle killer) and I could personally put it to great use in my sales job.
I personally will be royally pissed off if there is not a major update to MBPs. I've been waiting too long.
Also, I'm with the crowd saying the larger 1.5x tablet would be a hit. I'd love to get one (barring my lack of funds after my new MBP is ordered). Here's the thing though. I think that those who have an iPhone would be significantly less interested. And considering how many people have an iPhone or plan to buy one, the cannibalization could be an important factor in whether Apple releases this product, and when. We know Apple is at least experimenting with the idea in their labs (why wouldn't they be?), and I think it's a safe bet that their prototypes are very far along - near ready to ship possibly. The question is, will they ship.
i still don't get this tablet hysteria. the Touch is a great "quick info device" with zoom in capability. the MB air is ultraportable. the other MB's aren't exactly heavyweights either. as for "the wife", she'll just get pissed you're "playing with your tablet again" :))
a laptop should be more than enough for the sensible consumer, as far as portability is concerned. tablet = 90% marketing.
i'd love new minis and new cinema displays, btw.
The difference between a laptop and a tablet: multi-touch.
If you've spent enough time with an iPhone you understand that touch is a far superior interface than mouse and keyboard for common tasks - browsing the web, emailing, enjoying media, etc. Apple's touch is the most natural form of human/computer interaction I've had the joy to use or see.
As for "the wife": I completely agree that a tablet is a less intrusive device. First, there is a mentality about laptops (like the poster noted) that they are anti-social. My family has the same attitude about me and my laptop. I like the comparison between a tablet and a magazine. I believe browsing the web on a tablet would be a far lesser offense than pulling your laptop out to use on the couch. Second, the rumored tablet is less than half the size of most laptops, further minimalizing the obtrusiveness. The reduced size is also a huge plus for convenience. You might say that a laptop is small enough to be convenient to use anywhere. I disagree. The smaller a device, the more often you will find it convenient to use. I don't often lug my laptop around the house to browse the web - I pretty much stick to my office. A tablet would be used primarily in the living areas of the house. It can become more a fixture of the house than a personal device as well, if you wish. It lays out on the coffee table, just waiting until someone needs to look up the definition of a word, or check their mail quickly. It's then laid back on the table until needed again.
Anyways, the tablet I've described is certainly not a full-featured computer. It is more of a beefed up iPod Touch/iPhone. I'd love it.
I think that we have all forgot about the fact that if Apple plans on putting a multimedia system in a car for a 2009 model, they would have to announce it in June or January. I think they are behind "MS Sync" in this area and need to catch up. I hope this is the case.
I don't think the MBP design changes will be seen until September.
I don't think we'll get a major redesign of their major computing lines (MB, MBP, etc) before Macworld '09. I imagine that Apple is planning a significant design overhaul to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mac (and, likely, their most profitable year ever).

iPhone is the biggest product launch this year. It will take the majority of the keynote with all the other people he'll bring up on stage.....
The only other thing I can possibly see them revealing at the beginning of the keynote are the redesigned macbooks and macbook pros.
