New Airport Express due shortly?

Apple's Swiss store updated their specs (translated to English) on the Apple Airport Express to include 802.11N Wireless hardware over the weekend, according to MacGeneration.  Current Airport Express hardware uses 802.11G Wireless and hasn't changed physically since its introduction in 2004.

Other than the wireless, the images on the updated site have the hardware looking the same.  The Swiss Store page makes no mention of whether the new revs of the Airport Express will support USB hard drives for Time Machine backup or otherwise.  We'd guess not as it would pull people from Time Capsule purchases and isn't really what the small portable device was made for.

In any case, if you are thinking of getting an Airport Express, you might want to wait until you see one with 802.11N on the package - which should be any minute now....

Interesting that the Australia store, even know not making any mention to 802.11n on their Airport Express, has changed Estimated Shipping to 1 to 2 weeks, looks like its the real deal.

I work for a large Apple

I work for a large Apple reseller. And I can say that these items have been backordered for months and months. I've been predicting a revamp for the last 6 months, as the current 802.11g AE is holding back the full potential of the 802.11n AEX, if used in conjunction.

Red Herring

I think this is all a red herring- diverting us from Apple's imminent venture into pharmaceuticals. That's where the real money is.

i can tell you that the next major shipment of these will come into Australia on the 20th of this month. I have seen this on Apple's own ITSA. We haven't seen any airport express ship in Australia for at least the last month.

iShot *lol*

Mac airport gear

I've been waiting for the upgrade on the airport connectivity for years, I remember 2006 when I went through alcohol treatment, it was my mac book and the local wi-fi connection that helped me keep it together.

thanks
