Apple updates Java security with patch
Nothing like a little negative publicity to light a fire under Apple Security's backside. Today, Apple released a security patch for Java. No restart required but you have to *gasp* shut down those browsers.

I just tried to install this, but just came up with a message saying that it was unable to update. I'm not bothered but kind of odd.
I had the same until I closed all my programs. Then it worked fine.
THis update is not available is Software Update for Developers Preview of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Maybe included in the latest release?
it's not working for me, leopard, os x 10.5.7, it says that the package can't be validated...
Works fine here. 10.5.7 on 2009 Mac Pro.
Shut down all my apps, restarted...still wont update.
