Installer.app Updated to 3.03B

Sat, 10/20/2007 - 05:08 — Chauncey Dupree

Wow big surprise for those of us using hacked iPods/iPhones this morning. Installer.app was in its own updates notifications list. Interestingly, they reccomend running installer.app version 3 on 1.1.1 software. I guess its time to upgrade the iPhone to iPod level.

The interface is totally redesigned with a much better menu system. There are so many installable apps that the old menu system was being buried under the weight. This new one is a few levels deep so that it is much easier to browse the applications by category.

The bottom also has an iPod-like main menu and the application itself has a shiny new icon (that kinda looks like .Mac(!!).

There are a few bugs still left in the system as described in the About page on the app but none of them appear to be too significant. Expect a final version 3 shortly.

To download simply go to Installer.app and click on the updates tab. You'll see Installer.app asking to be updated. After updating you'll need to restart your iPod/iPhone.

Now how about Fring finish that Skype client so we can call it a day?

You've just turned into a

You've just turned into a hacking site. I want APPLE news not HACKING news. Maybe I should take you guys off my favorites list... or at least take your site out of the category "Apple News"

O please you want "apple

O please you want "apple news not hacking news" why don't you cry about it? Go ahead take this site off your favorites list...NO ONE ELSE CARES, certainly not the people at 9to5 mac.

Thanks for the AppTapp update...this site rocks!

Wow, what a loser. You have

Wow, what a loser. You have nothing to do but complain about my comment? Now THAT, is crying. Loser.

he cried in one comment. you

he cried in one comment.
you cried in two.
which means; you're the biggest crybaby around here.
stop crying or I'm gonna have to slap you.

i love you

Is the iPhone not a Apple

Is the iPhone not a Apple product?

I use Apple products and have hacked said Apple products. As long as this Apple site is providing news about Apple products, I don't see a problem with posts like this.

Yes, it is an Apple Product,

Yes, it is an Apple Product, but this isn't Apple news about it. Hacking does not count. It's like saying "Well FOX news shows news" umm... no it doesn't. And lately, neither has this site.

9 to 5 Mac's tag line is not

9 to 5 Mac's tag line is not "Apple News" - it's "Apple Intelligence" - i.e. things that people with Apple products might be interested in knowing. If all you want is Apple *news* then subscribe to Apple's rss feed. If all you want is Apple financial news, then you were never in the right place to start with. I don't even understand the distinction you are trying to draw between "Apple News" and "Apple Hacking News" - how could the latter be anything other than a subset of the former?? I also don't understand why you'd take the time to gripe about a news report - you can tell from the headline what it's about, at which point most people not interested in the post, would move on to the next post . . .

When I say, "Apple News" I

When I say, "Apple News" I do not mean the RSS of Apple. For example, a good Apple News site is "Mac-rumors" And also, "hacking" does not go under the category "apple intelligence" It goes under "Third party hacking that will ruin my perfectly good Apple Product"

Also, I take the time to do this because:

A) I am bored
and B) I am sick of hacking news on this site.

yeah.  you are right.  They even copied our story today.  You are wrong.  Leave

Yes, but they didn't put it

Yes, but they didn't put it on their front page, they put it in a specific place because they know most readers do not want to hear about hacking, thats the difference. Thats what I think that you should do to. You have categories on the top of your page, Industry Intel, Apple Inc. News, Mac @ Work, Polls, Tips & Tricks, and iPhone & iPod. Why not either A) put specific hacking news about specific products/categories in their respective categories, and keep them off the front page, or: have a new category for hacking, keep the hacking on the front page for viewers, but leave the other categories without hacking?

That way, everyone is happy, people who like hacking, can still get news on it, and people who don't, can easily avoid it.

BTW: I apologize to anybody I offended earlier, I was a arse and should not have been one.

The difference is that you

The difference is that you don't see that page on their front page. I was a asshole before, but I'm sorry to anyone I offended. Now, please, just hear me out. What I think would be better for this site, is to have a specific page just for hacking. Have it beside iPhone & iPod. And also, this way, you can continue posting hacking tips and tricks on your front page also. Now, people like me, who do not want to hear about hacking news can click on the other links at the top of the page. There, everyones happy :)

PS: I am VERY sorry for being an ass before, it won't happen again. To anybody I offended, please accept my sincere apologies.

macrumors.com has a large

macrumors.com has a large number of articles about jailbreaking iPhones and hacking AppleTVs. You just don't make any sense. Your logic is flawed, your complaints nonsensical.

No, I'm more like the guy

No, I'm more like the guy who turns on the TV to news, and gets something like CNN instead. Made-up crap, and irrelevant stuff. Or in our case, hacking.

I'll take you up on it -

I'll take you up on it - remove this site from your favorites.
Also remove it from your news list too.
In fact, it's probably better that you just forget about this site altogether.
see ya.

I'm not leaving this site,

I'm not leaving this site, I'm just saying I'm sick of the hacking news on here. If this site wants to have hacking so badly, they should have a different tap up there. Then, when I go onto this site, I can avoid that stuff.

A "tap"... as in

A "tap"... as in AppTap?

See, you do care.

Sorry, "tab" is what I

actually, go ahead and

actually, go ahead and leave.  You aren't adding anything useful to the conversation.  As a practice, we don't delete comments unless they are spam or are hurtful to people but you are degrading this conversation so much its hurting the site

you, Mr Apple enthusiast...or Apple Stockholm syndrome sufferer are really just closed minded.  Installer.app is as big a part of the iPhone/ipod touch as all the 3rd party apps on Mac.

Don't comment any more.  Take us off your feed, unbookmark us, whatever you need to do to pretend this whole world doesn't exist.

Because news about modifying

Because news about modifying and customizing your Apple products is so offensive, like child pornography, that you don't even want to have to be alerted to its existence? You are a very odd duck.

I don't understand why the

I don't understand why the idea of "hacking" a computer hardware product that you own (as distinct from hacking into someone else's network, or writing viruses, etc.) has a pejorative connotation for you. What you call "hacking" is what I call "installing software." It isn't illegal, it isn't wrong . . . how is it different from putting custom rims on a car, or repainting my apartment a color that's more to my liking. What's your beef, exactly?

You sir, or madam as the

You sir, or madam as the case may be, are an abomination (imnsho)! You really should try and avoid being an asshole insted of avoiding hacking news.

Abomination? And your calling me an asshole, which, by the way, isn't even proper english? You, sir or madam, should try to be less childish.

People who live in glass

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. The following is a fragment (unless you meant to type "you're" in which case it is just a very awkward sentence and), "asshole" is a word in the English language, and "English" is capitalized, last time I checked:
"And your calling me an asshole, which, by the way, isn't even proper english?"

So confused, I have an unlocked "simfree" on 1.0.2
