Expectations for Apple earnings set so low stock not expected to drop, analyst argues best time to buy

An analyst for Morgan Stanley said today that expectations for Apple’s Q1 2019 earnings are already set so low, that now marks perhaps the most ideal time to invest in the company.

Basically, the “bad news” regarding weak iPhone sales has already seen such a heavy response from the most fickle investors, that whatever Apple announces on Tuesday will most likely not tank the stock any more volatile than usual.

Facebook admits its photo-sharing app’s ‘Moment’ has passed, phasing out for lack of users

Initially launched in 2015, the failing service saw exceedingly low usage by users, with data pointing to just 80,000 downloads in the previous month.

Apple dismisses over 200 staff members from autonomous vehicle department

A report from CNBC this morning says Apple has cut over 200 employees from its top-secret “Project Titan” autonomous vehicle program. In a statement, however, the company says it still sees a “huge opportunity” in the space.

An Apple spokesperson acknowledged the changes, but attributed them to staff restructuring rather than layoffs.

Apple announces contest to crown 10 best ‘Shot on iPhone’ photos, submissions open through February 7th

Apple shared a Newsroom briefing today announcing a new contest to find the “best photos shot on iPhone”. Running from January 22 to February 7, Apple says its panel of eleven photography judges from around the world (including Phil Schiller), will select the ten winning photos to be featured on billboards in select cities, and Apple retail locations.

Apple admits Qualcomm was sole source of 4G modems, had no where else to turn

A report from Bloomberg details how Apple’s director of cellular systems architecture, Matthias Sauer, testified that the company sought 4G cellular modems from an array of different companies besides Qualcomm, however, none were able to provide market-ready 4G modems in time.

The news is a big boost to the chipmaker’s case, who is fighting claims that its near market monopoly has forced phone manufactures to pay fixed, inflated prices on chip licensing royalties.

Apple increases ‘health’ related hiring as job openings rise 400% since 2017

Apple has been slowly but surely growing hiring rates for jobs related to “health” fields. The company’s job openings with the word specifically mentioned in the career title have increased 400% as the company continues to view health as its “greatest contribution to mankind”.

According to new data by Thinknum, Apple has 75 open job listings with the word “health” in the career title, as compared to just 15 openings in October 2017.

Sketchy new reports from Chinese website Weibo claim to offer up some interesting new tidbits regarding Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11. Most interesting is the possibility of a display with a higher refresh rate, similar to the 120Hz rate found on iPad Pro.

The report also calls for a larger, 4,000mAh battery on the Max model, with much faster 15W wireless charging also in tow.
