'Nother one of those hunches. Citrix, maker of...wait, it is already online. Well, it will be official and in the App store very, very soon...are you ready to run Windows on your iPhone? We can't hardly wait!
Citrix servers create virtual sessions on a server somewhat similar to a virtual machine but without complete isolation of resources like you get with VMWare. VMWare just connects you to a currently running box on the main desktop rather than a virtual one. Terminal Services on windows is based on citrix technology.
If you don't understand the difference, then this is not for you. They are targeting businesses with existing citrix servers.
My work fully supports Citrix and thus I have been reading the Citrix blog weekly to learn of any changes. One of their recent November posts links to an article that discusses a "1st half of 2009" release". Where are you getting "very very soon" from?
To the other poster, Citrix is sorta kinda like VNC but much more robust and used in a commercial enviroment.
Clearly, some of you have no use for this, but I'm in the medical field and my hospital allows only citrix access into the medical info system. For example, when I want to access info on my patients from home, I need to run the citrix front end on my mac. It accesses a windows server at the hospital and I can thereby do everything I could do if I were on an in-house machine. I too have been following the citrix website to learn when I can put this on my iphone. Essentially, I'll be able to walk into my patient's room with their entire chart on my iPhone. I think this feature alone will sell even more Apple handsets.
Not big --- think again. Citrix is huge in government and corporate circles for tightly controlled, reliable and secure remote access to their corporate systems. This means blackberry is almost dead in the water because with a citrix client on iphone, the need to support push to blackberry or iphone and dedicated setups diminishes. iphone becomes the cheap low cost all-in-one ultra-portable (phone, computer and secure access point) corporate remote access tool - and staff like it because they get their music, video and web access. Palm, now RIM and next nokia - apple has a leap few will be able to match.
Again - kooooooolllll. Perhaps I should buy some apple shares!
Ugh. Citrix sucks. It's yet another technology that should have died long ago but is being kept alive because the corporate world uses it. Nobody likes Citrix...they just use it because they're forced to. Someone put a stake in this thing's heart already.
What is the alternative? Terminal services? Terminal services is based on an old version of citrix protocol which means that the current citrix servers have better performance and features than terminal servers offer.
I don't think you understand what citrix technology is.
Well I understand what Citrix is and I agree with him. Someone needs to invent something better instead of forcing us to rely on the old technology Citrix keeps rehashing.
i reiterate the sentiments of some of the more sensible people in this string in that this video is trash. all the exciting music and flying around is just a gimmick and a poor one at that. to be honest i was getting motion sickness just waiting for something tangible to happen.

Not a good video. They don't
Not a good video. They don't really show it running anything.
Great its a picture that you can move around in and zoom in out.
Been there done that every day. Take a picture, move around zoom. Big deal.
Why don't they show doing anything with Windows? No typing, no selecting. What are they hiding? Poor performance?
Not that I care anyway. Who needs to run windows? VNC works too.
Hopefully this app will be
Hopefully this app will be free since there are free VNC apps out there already and I've been doing this already for quite sometime.
OMG- What makes it different
OMG- What makes it different from VNC Lite?
Where are you getting your information?

Tell that to all the folks
Tell that to all the folks using the "GoToMyPC" service, which uses Citrix technology. And by the way, GoToMyPC now works with the Mac.
wow...
great video of an image of a windows desktop being pinched, rotated and zoomed.
Are y'all that gullible?
seriously
