Thank goodness since I nearly bought one....dodged a bullet there..........I always type with one finger holding one key down and THEN type with the other finger......whew....thanks Engadget!....btw......I still have one finger up........
Hey, you know what the droid DOES have? A REAL keyboard, so you don't have to worry about if the software lets you type one way or not, you can just sort of...oh I don't know....TYPE. Jesus, what an arrogant douche
The iPhone keyboard is the best, hands down. No need to even make a video, it's a fact. However, the Droid has the best touch keyboard on any phone that isn't the iPhone. I've been typing on it for a day and I don't mind it (I've also been using the crappy HTC Hero touch keyboard for the past two weeks)
What the Droid lacks in it's touch keyboard, it makes up in having a physical keyboard. That's my belief. I love this phone so far.
I don't think he's implying that anyone types that way, he's just exaggerating it to make a point.
The feature is needed however, because if you are typing very quickly on a phone like this and you press the next key in your word before having completely lifted your finger from the previous key, then that hit will not be registered and it could potentially limit how quickly you can effectively type on the droid.
I think this would only come into play when you tried to type quickly (even computer keyboards will let you type your next key before you have completely let up on the current key. try it.)
Without the multitouch keypad, I can users hitting a ceiling on quickly typing can occur.
Try typing quickly on a single touch software keyboard. Its not easy. I'm looking forward to the multitouch keyboard in 2.0.
Also, the hardware keyboard is reportedly not very good, so saying that it has that so the software keyboard doesn't matter isn't a good comeback (as well as missing the point).
The only reason I can see why someone will want to hold touch one key and type with another is because of the 'shift' icon. If I need to type capital letter I touch hold the shift icon and touch another one. That way I type faster. I certainly do not see the practicality of what they were trying to do here. Kinda like those useless US$.99 apps in the appstore. Josh, for real. Come better than that. If you want to talk about multitouch, try pinching to zoom in a photo or a maps app or in the webkit browser, Please!!!
The point is not just about Typing while holding one keyboard u fanboy penises. It's about the Droid only being a singel touch unit unlike the iPhone. I can see how this would affect other APPS.

Precisely.

This only affects the US version of the Droid. The european version works exactly like the iPhone. b.t.w. this guy has sausage fingers ;)

That was a poor example
