I've been biting my tongue on the new Unibody MacBook's trackpad's inability to tell when I am clicking.  Sometimes, no matter how hard I push it doesn't register a click.  Well, today may be my lucky day.  Apple released the trackpad firmware update.  Oh, and a Quicktime H.264 for iChat update as well.  Restarting...now... (Updated: Yummy results below)

Yep, it worked as advertised.  Now I am waiting for the glarey screen update..

I never had any previous problems with the trackpad, so nothing I can say.

I don't have a late 2008 MB or MBP so I can't make any evaluative remarks on either trackpad issues or highly reflective screens.....

Macbook (late 2008) trackpad issues

79

Just purchased a 2Ghz Macbook over the weekend and immediately noted it was, well... touchy. 10% of the time the track pad would drop the physical clicks, some movements would end up jumping the mouse to an extreme coordinate. I'm pleased to say the patch has fixed that quirky issue.

Now all they need to do is work on the USB / power saving issues that are well documented by many users.

It scared me when I closed the lid on my machine and tossed it in my bag to take to a friends for a development/geek session only to find it had not gone to sleep, and was scorching hot with no fan running.

Just unplug your external USB devices before you make the machine go to sleep. (as a quick fix for now)

Over all, I'm loving my new machine even with these few problems. It doesn't mean I don't want it patched soon however ;)

Isn't the no sleep with USB

Isn't the no sleep with USB thing so that you can plug in the 24" LED Cinema Display and close your Macbook but still see it on the screen. Or so you can close it at night and still charge your iPod. Sounds like a good thing to me. I hate having to leave my plastic Macbook open just a crack so my iPod will charge.

MacBook Pro

Just updated and it already seems to respond better. I wonder what they have changed though firmware wise? I mean; what was the reason for the trackpad not responding in the first place.

Another thing I have is when I let the battery run dry till sleep, it doesn't sleep in the usual sense: there is no sleep indicator light burning and I cannot wake it with a click on a button. I sort of restarts by clicking the powerbutton, but it does continu where I left of (with all programs running, though it does eject an external USB drive in the process.) My old PowerBook would just sleep normally.

hybernate

It is called haybernating, and higher than 1.33 ghz powerbooks can do that.

The book is writing everything on the memory to the hard drive and next time loads it back.

Thanks! Does it then totally

Thanks! Does it then totally shut down as well? Or does it need some power to support this?

It shuts down, otherwise it

It shuts down, otherwise it wouldn't be very helpful to do this when the battery is actually empty.

I haven't actually had my MacBook go to hibernation yet, but so far I am very impressed how the whole suspend thing is handled (by MacBooks in general, it's my first).

I didn't have any issues with the trackpad whatsoever, I don't know if I got lucky or just don't use it in a way (yet) that would make me notice it.

just installed the

just installed the update....the trackpad now works as it should....even the two finger right click now works properly....Good job apple. BTW, I've never had the usb standby problem...cause off course I unplug my extermanl usb devices before I put to sleep my laptop...

Mac notebooks are not

911

Mac notebooks are not supposed to wake up in closed-lid mode unless an external power supply is attached. However, with the late 2008 notebooks, either a USB or a Bluetooth device can wake the computer even if the lid is closed and it isn't connected to a power source. If you put the sleeping Mac in the same bag as its Bluetooth mouse, you might bump the bag, send a spurious mouse click to the computer, and wake it up. So unplug all USB devices and turn off all Bluetooth devices before putting the Mac to sleep. Then it won't get insomnia.

I did not have the trackpad

I did not have the trackpad problem, but installed the update anyway assuming it would do no harm. Now I am having the problem everyone else complained about. Very maddening. I'm guessing there's no way to install the original firmware.
