App Santa returns this year w/ up to 60% off popular apps for iPhone, iPad, & Mac

After first grouping together last year to offer huge discounts on popular apps from independent developers, App Santa is coming to town for the second year in a row with up to 60% off popular iPhone, iPad, and Mac apps to celebrate the holidays.

This year App Santa includes discounts on over 40 paid apps for iOS and OS X from developers including Tapbots, Realmac Software, Agile Tortoise, Readdle, Supertop, Junecloud, and more. The discounts kick off today and will run through December 26th giving you a chance to save money for yourself or gift apps to your family and friends. Gmail 2.0, Kindle X-Ray for books, Foursquare, Netbot, Uber, Jingu Friends, more

Gmail iOS 2.0

Gmail version 2.0: Google has just released a major update to its Gmail iOS app, introducing multiple account support, a new look that appears to be partly inspired by its Sparrow acquisition, search predictions and much more. The update also brings interactive Google+ posts support, an infinite scroll inbox, new welcome screen, and  the ability to respond to Google Calendar invites. Google walked through some of the new features of the overhauled Gmail app in a blog post noting the app was six months in the works:

Six months ago, our team set out to completely rebuild the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad to give you you a faster, sleeker, and easier experience on iOS. The result? Version 2.0. With version 2.0 of the app, you’ll get a totally new look and feel, plus a bunch of improvements like profile pictures in messages, numerous new animations from swivels to transitions and infinite scrolling in the message lists.

Kindle version 3.5: Amazon previously rolled out its X-Ray feature, which used to be exclusive to Kindle devices, to iOS devices back in October. At the time, it was only making the feature available for textbooks on iOS. Today, Amazon has updated the Kindle iOS app to extend the X-Ray to all books. The update also includes “Manga Image Rendering Improvements”:

• X-Ray for Books – see the “bones of the book”. X-ray helps you learn more about notable characters, places, and phrases with descriptions from Shelfari.com and Wikipedia.

Uber version 2.1.0: iPhone 5 support and localizations:

-Uber app now supports iPhone 5. Also in this release are Dutch localization, and an enhanced look for top riders.

Netbot for App.net (iPhone): Tapbots updated its Netbot client for App.net today with some new features and improvements. The iPad edition is available here.

Apps & updates: EA 80% off sale, Box, MindNode, Klout, Animoog, more

In addition to a big list of popular EA iOS titles up to 80 percent off today, below is our list of the latest apps and updates arriving in the App Stores:

Box version 2.7.7:Box.net’s iPhone and iPad app received a nice update that brings the ability to save photos and video to the Photos.app and improvements to the Box OneCloud service and file uploads.

MindNode version 2.1.3: A decent update goes to the popular task planning and brainstorming productivity app for iPhone and iPad including the ability to opened zipped MindNode files, which provides support for syncing docs from iCloud or share sheets in 10.8. Also included is ” the ability to launch MindNode using a custom URL scheme.”

Klout version 1.6: The iPhone app that tracks influence across social networks was updated today with a new Klout Score graph that allows you to “see an interactive graph of your Klout Score for the past 30 days” from landscape mode in the Profile tab. You can also now connect your social networks from within the app itself.

Animoog version 1.1.0: Moog Music’s first polyphonic synth designed for iPad was updated today with some nice new features including preset categories, MIDI CC mapping, MIDI Out support via in-app purchase, and new expansion packs in the Animoog Store for “METALLIC” and “ACOUSTIC”.  The recording limit has also now been doubled, and the update includes fixes that caused the app to crash on past iOS releases.
