August 7th, Cupertino. Apple is set to announce new iMacs for sure, perhaps some new iPods (though more than likely these are another month out), maybe a mini replacement, and doubtfully an ultra-light laptop. On the software side, it is very likely the new versions of iLife and iWork '08 will be hitting the streets. It just aligns well with the new iMac announcement and of course we've had some hints from Think Secret and MacRumors.
What will these new software titles include? Likely a lot of upgrades, stability enhancements, etc. We know there is a spreadsheet application in iWork, you can see parts of it when you open an excel file on and iPhone or in Leopard in Quicklook. But what else?
A Blooging.app
Why? Because it makes perfect sense. Blogging is blowing up from both a consumer and business standpoint and wants to hit mainstream very badly. Presently, only mildly techie people can blog effectively and most people are unaware of how to blog at all. Tools like Ecto, Journaler and MarsEdit don't cut it. They do connect to proper blogging platforms (iWeb closed platform app need not apply) like Blogger, Worpress, MT, Drupal and the like, however, it isn't simple and isn't reliable. This is a wide open area where Apple can take the lead on Microsoft, Sun and even Google in the Office productivity arena. Could Apple be doing for the blogging culture what it has done for the computer, word processing, , music, digital camera, video editing (on and on) cultures before it--allowing the other 80% in on the fun? We can only hope.

iWeb currently has a blogging portion guys. Don't count on any new app for it. iWeb offers a way for people will no HTML/PHP/MySQL/Javascript knowledge to make a web page with a blog, galleries, and most of the content they want.

Yes it is. There is a built in template and layout to make blogs and easily update them.
Does it update Content management Systems like Wordpress, etc?
No. It is an HTML editor. Pure and simple. Can you make templates? Sure. Can you use it to update your wordpres blog? no.
No you update your .Mac blog
No you update your .Mac blog or you blog on your own web-server. Just because it doesn't integrate with wordrpress doesn't make it less of a blog.
yes it does.
It doesn't follow any of the major blogging standards. Being able to publish to a .Mac Blog is next to useless. Only for Grandparents and Rabid Mac Fanbois

uhh there already is a blogging app. its in iweb. i would like to see some more improvements to iweb, like animations and flash support. i have actually created a nice flash website in keynote. if this were refined and put into iweb, it would be THE web development app for everyone.
.mac???
The big announcement I want to see Tuesday, in addition to the new iMac I've been waiting for, will have to do with significant improvements to .Mac. I'm looking for new storage capacities, faster upload speeds and new features. Time for the Google partnership to pay off for .Mac users.
iWeb has blogging. I could
iWeb has blogging. I could see more blogging features added to iWeb,among other new features- but no app.
I agree- .Mac upgrade would be great.
iLife, iWork, and .Mac
I would love to see the iLife and iWork software suites improved. But other than Charts (or whatever the supposed name for the spreadsheet app might be), I wouldn't hold my breath for any additional software. I would also love to see .Mac improved. What I think would be particularly killer is if all new iMacs (they're bound to be renamed to just Mac with this update, for naming consistency) included not only iLife out of the box, but iWork as well. "Ready to work, ready to play, out of the box; your new Mac."
