Oops iPhone Extreme coming? (Updated)

iPhone Extreme

It looks like Tom at iPhoneBugList.com has unearthed a little nugget of gold. It could be a HTML programming error but we, of course, like to speculate that there is more. If you look at the source code of Apple's iPhone Feedback Page, you'll notice the term iPhone Extreme.

While "Extreme" is a tired name in the tech marketing world, Apple still has an affinity for it. You have to look no further than Apple's Airport line to find the name denoting the latest and greatest iteration of the product.

It is probably just a coding error but at some point in the near future, there will be an upgraded iPhone.

So what would this iPhone have? Yep 16Gb Ram, 3G and maybe GPS?  Finally. All signs point to late-February to early May. Kinda early to be telling the HTML coders if you ask us.

I think it's the result of a

I think it's the result of a lazy coder. They probably copy/pasted the code from another page with Extreme in the name. Say it was Airport Extreme. They did a search/replace of Airport to iPhone, and didn't catch that Extreme word.

Besides, when the iPhone gets 16GB and 3G, it'll just be a replacement for the existing model.

This did not come from

This did not come from Germany. It came from the USA! Me to be exact.

Well, if the tip is as good as this guy's reading skills or knowledge of world geography it may not be so accurate... the site is in Switzerland, as this site says, not in Germany. At least 9to5mac.com got it right.

Switzerland's dominant language may be German, but that doesn't make it part of Germany! Or is the US still a British colony just because the national language is English?

Maybe they'll add 802.11n to

Maybe they'll add 802.11n to the WiFi part. :D

Why would you assume

Why would you assume February?

Yeah I am holding off for a

Yeah I am holding off for a second gen version of the product and am hoping for (from most important to least):

3G
Flash / Java / etc.
3rd Party (And Native Office Suite, iWork2G0)
Real Keyboard (not sure how to add one though)
More memory (even if it means a Hard Drive Disc)
Removable Battery
GPS

And all of the rest of the usual stuff...

Question Time: Why do you say Febuary?
I would say Macworld 2009 with a release in late June 2009. That way everyone with an iPhone will upgrade once the contract is up. In the meanwhile they will sell version 1.0 worldwide.

Of course I am praying I am wrong... If I am though and it is coming early 2008 why Febuary. Why not hit Macworld San Fransisco (MWSF) with a big bang. We all know there will be new Macbooks and Macbook Pros at MWSF. And if they want to save it I would wait until World Wide Developer Confrence to release it.

Here's hopibng for Febuary :-)

You're an idiot. Real

You're an idiot.

Real Keyboard... Really?
Hard Disk... Really?
Removable Battery... Really?

There is no way in hell the iPhone will ever see a real keyboard or a hard disk. WTF.

A removable battery! WHAT! What do you smoke crack as a side hobby? A removable battery completely defeats the purpose of Apple's renowned form and function. And as a side note, you CAN replace the battery. People have been doing it on iPods for years. It can be done on an iPhone without much consternation.

Why are so many people assuming that the next gen iPhone is going to come out so soon. Do you remember how long the first one took? Do you know how much different a 3G HSDPA radio chipset is than a standard quad-band GSM?

F*ckin' A!

Current 3G HSDPA chipsets are total and utter crap. I've had multiple 3G handsets from multiple manufacturers and the battery life on every single one is garbage. A LOT of kinks have to be worked out before that thing winds up in an iPhone.

And for all the other shit including GPS. All you have to do is look at the Nokia N95 to realize all that shit is not ready for an Apple product.

Rant Complete...

Peace!

Wrong about iPhone battery

Wrong about iPhone battery replacement. Replacing an iPod's battery can be done without much consternation, but an iPhone's battery is an entirely different matter. They soldered the dang thing to the mother board:
http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/31/replacement-iphone-battery-kit/

Last time I checked,

Last time I checked, desoldering and then resoldering a couple wires didn't put me under too much pressure.

Ok, Ok, most people don't own or even know what a soldering iron is, but if they can open up their iPods, they can open up their iPhones. I'm sure they can then find someone that will do the soldering job for peanuts.

Seriously!

Steve said something would

Steve said something would happen next year.

Look at this: Code in

Look at this:

Code in Airport Extreme's feedback form:

Code in iPhone's feedback form:

...so they just copied and pasted the whole code, and searched and replaced "airport" with "iphone", and forgot about the "extreme" word.

Wonder if they will offer a

Wonder if they will offer a trade in allowance for my 8 gig...

It could be fun to be the

It could be fun to be the coder of a site like that. You could plant all sorts of pyrite nuggets for rumor sites to mine and latch onto.

Well, It's gone now

Well, It's gone now

its gone

UH OH looks like we have a

UH OH looks like we have a winner. still - hate the name

Maybe it's for Ringtones!

Maybe it's for Ringtones! Probalby not. I am sick of the lack of flexibility in the iPhone...it has got to be the least customizable cellphone on the market (albeit the coolest...I do want to have my cake and eat it too). Sign this petition if you'd like to express your views on not being able to, at least, use your own Ringtones:

An AT & T store rep told me

An AT & T store rep told me that they are coming out with a 16gb iPhone for Christmas, which will sell for $599, which explains dropping the 4gb altogether and dropping the price of the 8gb. Maybe it will have other features too, justifying "extreme." I guess if you look at the old "good, better, best" model Apple used to use at the Apple store, the iPod touch-good, 8gb iPhone-better, 16gb-best or maybe it will do games like the iPod...or maybe it will just have a more powerful battery. It already has TV Out, even though I don't think that feature was mentioned in the 1.1.1 software update.

IT IS DOWN!!!!! DING DING

IT IS DOWN!!!!!

DING DING DING - WE HAVE A WINNER!

IPHONE EXTREME BABY

the iPhone extreme, if real,

the iPhone extreme, if real, could be thicker and have a regular hdd, with maybe an nvidia gpu like the xda flame.
.. (i speculate hdd in order to offset the other component costs...

I've been told by credible

I've been told by credible sources that there will be an anouncement this month (for 4th Quarter), that just in time for the holiday, a considerable upgrade is going to be made to the iPod Touch as well as the iPhone. There's a reason that there is plenty of room left on the home screen of the iTouch, and some room left on the iPhone. Firmware updates will bring new apps that we've all been waiting for, with the exception of GPS and 3G.

Thanks for pointing out that

Thanks for pointing out that a firware update won't bring GPS and 3G.... doh
Hey.. any idea if they're planning a firmware update to make the battery removable?
thanks

GPS and 3G aren't

GPS and 3G aren't applications. :)

i'd say they use a content

i'd say they use a content management system for apple.com and don't cut-and-paste!

I would agree... Such a large company who can afford the best HTML editors definately would not copy and paste...

But that could account for the HTML of the Airport Extreme page being similar to the HTML of this page.

The new intel prossesor comes out in 2009. 2 years after the iPhone 1.0 came out. Also once all off the contracts are up with ATT. I can see it being released then. :-(

Wish it was sooner though.

Just give me the iPhone or

Just give me the iPhone or iPod Touch here in Denmark! I'm tired of not being able to try the OS/multi-touch out!!! Ahrg!

Oh well, maybe the've got it tomorrow, we'll see. Good night from Denmark everybody!

And it would also be awsome

And it would also be awsome if Apple just sold the iPhone like the iPod Touch. I have a hard time getting why Apple had to "find" a carrier for their phone...anyone open for suggestions other than revenue earnings at Apple's side?

Thank you,
the Faroese guy in Denmark (the earlier comment above is also from me)

As much as it hurts me to

As much as it hurts me to say so after coughing up so much money for the 8gb IP, there is a lot of information popping here and there that seems to point to an Iphone v 2 or the “Iphone Extreme”. My most recent finding has me believing that IPV2 will defiantly have a built in gps. There’s a few letters and memos floating around the net that talk about a company by the name of “sirf” which is mostly a chip dev company and a Korean company. But on the up side there is new software that will pinpoint my location based on the signal strength and distance from the towers like goggle is planning on doing? We will just have to wait and see. but i hope they will aleast offer a trade in

I'm violating my

I'm violating my non-disclosure agreement because this thread is giving me a major headache:  iPhone X (that will be the released name) has a stripped down version of Wine so that we can offer Windows CE (SmartPhone) compatibility via an emulator.  Users will be able to "slide" between interfaces.  And yes, ActiveSync works.  For what it's worth, the hardware guys threw in a "batwing" keyboard too.  This thing doesn't slide down, like a drawer, or flip out.  What happens is that the keyboard is split in two parts and each half sort of flies out - one part goes left, the other goes right.  That way people can hold the device and type with their phones, while still having the whole screen to look at.

Now will you please shut up about this and get on with your miserable, little lives?

LT

then when will it be

then when will it be relesed???is there any possibility by april this year??
