Those slackers at iFixit really know how get into a MacBook quick. Here's their takeapart of the new 13-inch MacBook Pro. Note that it is fairly simple to replace the hard drive and RAM. Unscrew the bottom lid and you are presented with all of the good stuff right away. The RAM slides out, while the hard drive is four more screws away.

Speaking of which, here's a 5400 RPM500GB Hitachi drive for $89. Dayum.
Or a 7200 RPM 2.5 inch 500GB HD for $20 more.

Do you mean to say that the 5400 RPM500GB Hitachi drive would fit in there?
sure it will. a 500GB
sure it will. a 500GB 5400rpm drive is a BTO option from the apple store too. There's also a 7200rpm 500GB drive that'll fit. But i read a review/test of 5 drives including these two, and there was nothing about the 7200rpm's performance to warrant my getting it. The 7200's not avail BTO, btw.
I ordered mine w/4GB RAM and the 500GB HD. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Selling my much-loved 2.0GHz 2MB RAM 320GB HD Black Macbook to make room for the new one. I get a new toy and the old one trickles down the supply chain and makes someone else happy too.
Versus
Slight performance improvement versus energy efficiency, my friend. 5200 rpm uses less juice, 7200 rpm provides faster access. Personally I just ordered a 5200 hdd at 5200 RPM. Folks who are often plugged in may see things differently.
Battery
Does anybody know yet what is entailed in replacing the battery on all the MBP's? Does it take a trip to the Genius Bar or is this something the owner can do (assuming a minimal talent:)
How is the hard drive "4
How is the hard drive "4 screws away"?
Previous unibody only had 1 screw. iFixit only shows 1 screw.
How'd you come up with 4?
Thanks!
That link "Or a 7200 RPM 2.5
That link "Or a 7200 RPM 2.5 inch 500GB HD for $20 more." is to a 3.5" drive.
Someone is going to have a mighty hard time trying to fit that baby in.
I just bought a 7200rpm 500GB
I just bought a 7200rpm 500GB HD (Seagate Momentus) from NewEgg for $130.00 It is a 2.5" SATA so it should fit in the new MBP 13". However there are some that are stating that the drive will change the dynamics of the battery consumption. Would anybody agree with this and at that the better option would be to just stick with the 5400rpm and 500GB?
