Engadget wins the iMac/Magic Mouse unboxing race

Seriously, pretty fast Engadget.  

Some quick observations on the new Magic Mouse: It looks thinner than any mouse I've used before.  Will it feel like one of those mice that fits into your laptop's PC card slot? And I wonder how the right and left clicking action will be.  Remember, Apple isn't 100% awesome when it comes to mice.  Anyone remember Jobs unveiling the "Puck Mouse" as the next greatest thing?  Even the Mighty Mouse ball never worked perfectly for me - I reverted to a Logitech when the ball died.

Anyway, I'll judge it when we get to play with it - which I am excited about.

What they need, now that they have finally gone standard with the wireless mouse and keyboard, is to incorporate some of this wireless power technology so that you don't need to replace/charge the batteries in your keyboard & mouse.

No grand "the iphone uses wireless power" or "the entire desktop is wire free"... just the keyboard and mouse as a start.

Actually... one thing I might add to the lineup would be an iPod/iPhone cradle with builtin wifi/bluetooth for syncing that also uses the wireless power... that way you'd have a cradle for your portable device so that it can face you like the big screen while it is charging/syncing.

Some kind of Palm Pre-esque induction pad on the stand could work.

Like, you place your keyboard and mouse on the stand when you want to charge them. Not effortless, but not difficult either.

Apple's new mouse certainly seems better than Microsoft's recent 70's-esque multi-touch prototypes. A word to Microsoft: Trying to be cool and actually being cool are two different things. :)

Cool, of course! But why do Apple still insist on making their mouse design's symetrical? They don't work! The human hand is not symetrical.. do they not employ anyone in ergonomics or is completely everything based on visual aesthetic?
Stick with Logitech and wait for them to come up with a multi-touch :)

Apple has lefties in mind. Instead of having a left or right curved mouse... They have a symetrical one.

People didn't use the "puck" mouse as it was intended (palm on desk, finger tips on mouse).

It's almost like setting your iPhone down next to your computer and using that to control it. It just needs a laser tracker built into it.

Actually when the scroll ball on a mighty mouse starts to act up you just need to stroke it against a sheet of plain paper on a flat surface for about one minute and it gains new life.

I personally have never had a problem with any of the Apple Mice - I loved the puck - (so much so that I even purchased one on eBay to use until I replaced it when the Mighty Mouse came out)

The Mighty Mouse has been great save for two problems - ball jam (sounds like an STD) and not working to well on reflective or white surfaces although both have been fixed with a black mouse mat. (Running the trackball around on it seems to work pretty well at freeing it up)

I've pre-ordered the Magic Mouse and I am really looking forward to using it! Sorry to see the Expose squeeze buttons disappear from the side - but in preparation I have switched expose all Windows to a hot corner or (SHOCK HORROR) I could always use a keyboard short cut!

Bottom line - Apple mice aren't for everyone but I personally LOVE THEM!
