Use iPhone as DUN Bluetooth Modem

Looks like all the shackles are coming off the "protected" iPhone one by one.  Today we learn that cre.ations.net (via O'Grady) has effectively done one of the holy grails of broadband mobile phone usage by enabling the iPhone to share its EDGE (why oh why not 3G Apple?!)connection with a host computer. What's next hackers? If you are taking requests, turn my iPhone into a junxion box!

Don't believe us?!?!  Roll the tape (after the jump)...

This is an edge network

This is an edge network connection being shared through the wifi connection, not bluetooth. It is also not DUN. You cannot call arbitrary numbers (like fax machines).

I have the same question. Did you ever get an answer and would you be able to share it with me.

I have got as far as getting into the iphone with ssh over a dummy wireless network, but I can't figure out how to get the iphone to share its edge access.

Thanks.

how can the iPhone keep both the edge and wifi open at the same time? The iPhone can't do that as it switches one off when it jumps on the other. Are you sure this is for real?????

Great news, I have been hearing that Apple will wait until 3G to incorporate this into the iPhone.

When you say that you heard DUN is coming with 3G, do you recall whether it will also be available on the Edge phones at that time?

Most websites that are

Most websites that are available in the iPhone format would detect that it is an iPhone connecting to it. Google.com is one of these. Wouldn't the google website recognize that its being connected to through the iPhone and format itself accordingly? The google site shown in this video is the typical web browser format.

Google and others detect

Google and others detect what browser you are using, not your connection. So the would not be a problem.
