(Update see video of presentation below)

Google is preparing to introduce the first Android-powered mobile phone, putting the new device in competition with the iPhone during the coming Holiday sales market.

The device, Dream, is manufactured by HTC and available exclusively on T-mobile in the UK and to ship in early November. A local UK report predicts the device will be introduced at a New York press conference next Tuesday.

Unlike iPhone, Dream's expected to carry a slide-out Qwerty keyboard as well as matching the iPhone with 3G and built-in GPS. It'll also have Chrome inside, so it will run Google applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Maps and so on..much like Mobile Safari.

HTC expects to shop 600,000 to 700,000 of its first Android phone, Dream, this year, a person familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal.

...too bad I'm switching from T-Mobile to AT&T this month to get an iPhone.

Sorry T-Mobile, too many years of offering a horrible phone selection and out-dated service is too much to overcome.

I don't understand how a company can now come out with a phone like that, which is a complete copy of the iPhone.

The public is not stupid!! Do they think were going to say WOW!! how innovative and what a great product!

Um...no... Apple has already done it. Apple wowed us when they released what they think the phone should be, setting an excellent benchmark.

No, all these companies think its acceptable to just copy Apple. I don't respect copycats, I respect a company who can truly come out with something even better than the iPhone.

Is there seriously no-one in this world who can be a true competitor of Apple?

Why does everyone seem to think Hmmm... Apple is leading the way with their excellently designed and well thought out products. Lets not use that as a challenge and create something even cooler... Lets create something exactly the same. This video just shows how crap the phone is compared to the iPhone.

I'm not convinced that anyone can truly rise up and challenge Apple.

Don't get me wrong though. I am 100% happy with Apple never being able to be challenged. Their products are too good. Keep up the good work Apple.

Why so much vitriol? Aren't you assuming a bit much? Perhaps the Dream is better than the iPhone. It has a QWERTY keyboard, for example, so HTC is trying to do at least a little more/different than Apple.

The iPhone is, after all, a smartphone. That means Apple built upon what others had created. I'll bet they even looked at what others had created to get ideas for what to do or what needed to be better.

I have no idea whether the Dream will be better than the iPhone, but its possible that they have looked at the iPhone and tried to see what could be improved. That's not copycatting.

They are announcing in NYC but selling in the UK? Did the person planning this PR do very, VERY poorly in Geography in school? ;) Or do they plan to some day sell in the US?
