Apple iPhone 3G demand to be 'unprecedented'

Apple faces "unprecedented" demand for the iPhone 3G, reports RBC Technology analyst, Mike Abramsky.

Citing recent research conducted on behalf of RBC Technology, the analyst told Silicon Alley Insider that 56 per cent of those planning to purchase a smartphone in the next ninety days plan to buy an iPhone - that's up form 35 per cent in March.

The research also revealed that consumer interest in the iPhone has grown faster than in advance of any other phone launch recorded by the company. And 10.5% of those surveyed intend to buy a smartphone -- any smartphone -- up from 7%-8% average over the last few years.

Additional findings:

- 25 per cent of those surveyed may buy an iPhone 3G in the future - twice the level of interest seen before launch of the first product last year.

- Top reasons for buying the iPhone include lower price (67%), 3G Internet connection (63%), GPS (47%), Microsoft (MSFT) Exchange email support (35%), and third-party apps (20%).

Oh yeah. This is gonna be

Oh yeah. This is gonna be great. I hope Steve has planned for the demand and upped the supply. I would hate to wait in line only to be told the store is sold out of iPhones.

Well....

This may change once they see the monthly costs with the "new" AT&T pricing.

Money is no object when we're

Money is no object when we're talking about iPhones!

Roll on the 11th. I cannot

Roll on the 11th. I cannot wait and neither can half the people where I work.
Even my better half. She cares about as much for tech as I do for dresses and lipstick -
her current phone is older than most rocks and rivers yet even she wants the new iPhone.
This is gonna be huge!

And RBC is from Canada...??

RBC, based in Canada, penned this report before seeing Rogers Wireless Canadian data pricing for iPhone. Would be interesting to see the response knowing you could only download 400MB of data per month for $100USD once fees, taxes and caller ID are added. Then get ted to explain those finding to Rogers shareholders.

iPhone in Netherlands

Boy, those guys in Canada (and most parts of the world for that matter) are gonna be jealous at us here in the Netherlands. Only €79.95 to buy one, €52,50 to connect it (connecting service for T-mobile) and only €29,95 /month with 150 texts AND 150 minutes AND unlimited voicemail AND unlimited data (2 Mbit down/0,35 Mbit up)

iPhone in Switzerland

Here in Switzerland I'll be paying just CHF 12.- pm for the monthly contract, plus CHF 10.- pm for 100 Mb data. Plus I get free calls to other office phones thrown in. I'll have to pay CHF 349.- for the 16 Gb or CHF 249 for the 8 Gig. We do have to pay per minute for use though.

Even a PAYG iPhone here would only cost CHF 519/619 for 8/16 Gb version! Oh, and we get a choice of two providers - the second one has yet to announce rates, and to be competitive may even beat the rates I've just given you!

FYI, CHF 1.- = USD 0.98
