Snapped: Fresh iPod touch with camera pics emerge, prices, too...
Here we go again, as the rumour-mill gathers ever more strength and reports claiming Apple will unveil its latest range of iPods in early September, perhaps during the week beginning September 7, the latest batch of iPod touch with camera pictures/mock-ups have emerged.
This latest trio of purported images have leaked out of those ever-busy Chinese forums. Meanwhile, (fresh off his geek fight with Giz editor Brian Lam) Daring Fireball last night spat out what author John Gruber hears are the price points for the new iPods: 16/32/64 GB for $199/299/399, he claims.
Allegedly, these images depict a prototype (albeit somewhat scratched, hmm..) of the future model of the device, which is also expected to be able to capture video, edit video and share video assets using services such as Mobile Me and YouTube (as the iPhone does at this point).
With the iPod touch already a major contender in the handheld gaming segment, it should be interesting to watch its future land-grab at the low end digital camera/video camera markets.
We guess success will depend on just how high a resolution camera the future product will offer, and what the market decides is the minimum necessary for casual - but effective - photography. Another image after the jump. Via: Techticker.

What do you think - real or fake?
Update: So far the consensus is pretty much in the fake category, two good reasons so far:
1/ Look at the Dock - there's reflections, which aren't in the current OS.
2/ That poor iPod touch is pretty scratched?

i think this is fake.... i think apple will put a camera into the ipod touch - but i think they will change the design a little bit. the camera on the metallic back looks pretty cheap to me. can't describe why but I think with the new update in september the iPods won't just get a camera - they (hopefully) will be re-designed as well
THERE IS NO SPOTLIGHT SEARCH.
Therefore it isn't using a post-3.0 OS, and therefore it is quite a fake.
Hmmm...see how it has voice memos? See the little magnifying glass to the left of the dots for the SpringBoard? Have you ever seen 3.0?
actually i think there is a spotlight search, look really closely

LMAO the second picture is a downright lame fake. I can make 5 more cameras on the back in 2 mins. Suckers !
This is SO fake. The iPod is so scratched it must be at least a year old. The camera looks like a cigarette burn.
^^^
I agree, also: the back is really scratched, just like the iPod touch i've had since last september.

The author has committed this was fake, the camera was simply depicted...
running lots of fail so far in terms of response, can't help but want to see the real thing though, eh?
i have proof that its fake, look at the dock, there's a reflection of the icons. That isn't on the currrunt models!!
Now I believe that is jailbroken as if u look at the clock, it is live and matches the digital time at the top which
is not the case on standard OS also the redlectiveness is also a jailbroken tweak that is available on cydia. How do I know? Redsn0w :)
ooh - that's a good one...
i have more proof that it is faked, the clock icon has the hands pointing in differnt direction to current models!!!
fake! hahah it does clearly state that there mockups!

The back gets scratches like that 1 week of using it in your pocket (without keys in it). So this is no argument.
Fake.
So fake!
Those of you who says that the reflection dock is fake I can tell you it's not. That's an app from Cydia, only available on jailbreaked iDevices.
Reeks of FAKE!
hey it is looking like a fake pic.........

If you look at the numbers on the icon badges for Mail and the App Store, they seem to be positioned off-centre. Also, the number on the Calendar icon seem like it should be in a bolder font.
118 emails? Some one needs to slow down for a minute and delete their junk mail.
Why fake? Let's start...
When iPod touch 2.0 got out, it was really hard to crack it. Do you think that Apple won't do the same thing to this one? So the arguents about jailbreak aren't really arguents (at least for me).
So, the calendar number is not in the correct position, the clock icon isn't the same and the oddly positioned text on the badges.
And, if you look closely, the camera on the back is not aligned with the middle of the black antenna. And why would Apple place the camera in the middle instead of the top left/right? And that isn't an Apple design, or do you believe that the camera would be placed without a frame or something like in the iPhone? Besides the scratched back.
But, strangely, every icon is placed in a position that is equal or extremely near the one that the icons are in an iPhone. I know that the icons can be rearanged but it's very odd.
And the reflective dock, if I recall, the first versions of the iPod touch OS had a reflective dock. You could perfectly take a screenshot of an iPhone and add the icons from the old dock by mistake.
I may not be correct, but I call this one: FAKE.
Btw, we have a store here in Portugal that began selling cases for the iPod nano 5G and the touch 3G. Take a look at the case and tell me if it looks like this iPod touch: http://bit.ly/12aTCJ
Fake, the camera will be on the front, so they can have WiFi iChat. Same with next years iPhone. It has to get better every year & iChat will be part of it.
